Is Scarlet Witch the Strongest Avenger? (A Comparison with Other MCU Characters)
Since her appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch has had a turbulent period in the MCU as a member of the Avengers. She has had several major losses in her life, a life marked by tragedy, which culminated in her discovering the depths of her powers, while also having a breakdown, as shown in WandaVision. The series has shown just how powerful Wanda can be and in this article, we are going to explore whether Wanta is the strongest Avenger.
As far as the MCU is concerned, Scarlet Witch would be able to defeat Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, Black Panther, and Ant-Man. On the other hand, she would lose against the Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel.
The resto of this article is actually going to be divided into two sections. The first one is going to give you a list of the Avengers that Wanda could defeat in a fight, while the second one is going to list those who could beat Wanda. Using everything we know from the MCU, we are going to finally settle the debate when her role in the Avengers is concerned.
Avengers weaker than Scarlet Witch
Iron Man
Anthony “Tony” Stark, better known as Iron Man, is one of Marvel’s most famous characters. The billionaire genius who used his resources to create an armored suit to fight crime, both terrestrial and cosmic, has become one of the best-known comic book characters.
He is likewise an important member of the Avengers and their leader, alongside Captain America. Nick Fury classifies him as a level 9 superhero. Let us see the comparison (the higher values represent Iron Man’s enhanced powers while wearing the suit):
Scarlet Witch | Iron Man | |
Intelligence | 3/7 | 6/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 2-6/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2-5/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 1-6/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 1-6/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
Fancy gizmos don’t really work on magic, so despite all of Iron Man’s skills, he wouldn’t really have any chance in this fight.
Captain America
Captain America is the superhero identity of one Steven Rogers, one of the best-known superheroes in the history of comics. Steven Rogers was a frail, young soldier who was given the Super Soldier Serum, thus becoming a near perfect soldier, as part of an American plan to win in World War II. Rogers then became Captain America, the “First Avenger”.
He is a regular member of the Avengers and the leader of the group, alongside Iron Man. Nick Fury classifies him as a level 8 superhero.
Scarlet Witch | Captain America
Intelligence | 3/7 | 3/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 1/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 6/7 |
This one’s not even fair, it’s like sending a sockpuppet to fight Ali.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man is the alter ego of Peter Parker, a New York-based high school student who gets bitten by a radioactive and becomes th superhero Spider-Man. Spider-Man is know for its ironic approach to fighting crime, but he has shown that he can get serious when needed to be. His famous enemies include the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro, Rhino, Sandman, the Lizard, Venom, and others.
Scarlet Witch | Spider-Man
Intelligence | 3/7 | 4/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 4/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 3//7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 1/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
She’d probably have some trouble catching him, and she’d have to survive the horrible puns, but aside of that – it would be an easy win.
Hawkeye
A costumed archer redeemed from a criminal past and endowed with a vast arsenal of arrows of the most disparate shape and multiple uses, Hawkeye is a historical member of the Avengers who, at the expense of his brash and sometimes arrogant character, often a cause for squabbles with his companions as a team, since his entry into the ranks of the group he has always been part of some of his formation, both main and secondary, also captaining the West Coast Avengers and the Thunderbolts.
Scarlet Witch | Hawkeye | |
Intelligence | 3/7 | 3/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 1/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 6/7 |
Yeah, he might win in a game of darts. Otherwise? Not a chance.
Black Widow
Natalia Romanova, alias Black Widow, was initially a Russian spy and an antagonist of Iron Man, before she became a superhero and a member of the Avengers. She has no inherent superpowers, but has been trained to perfection and has enhanced human abilities. Nick Fury classified her as a level 7 superhero.
Scarlet Witch | Black Widow
Intelligence | 3/7 | 3/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 3/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 6/7 |
Even if we had Natasha and Yelena together in this one, they’d both be squashed like spiders on a wall.
Falcon
Falcon, whose real name is Samuel Thomas “Sam” Wilson, is gifted with the ability to communicate with birds and fly with artificial wings; he is a former criminal redeemed by Captain America and later became his close friend and inseparable shoulder in the fight against crime, so much so that he was included in more formations of the Avengers and, after the retirement of Steve Rogers, become the new Captain America. The character was the first African American Marvel superhero.
Scarlet Witch | Falcon | |
Intelligence | 3/7 | 2/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 1/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
Yeah, this is just the Captain America sockpuppet, but with wings.
Black Panther
Black Panther is the traditional protector of the Kingdom of Wakanda, a superhero name currently held by Wakanda’s ruler T’Challa. As a member of the Avengers, Black Panther is known for his enhanced abilities (gained through traditional Wakandan rituals), as well as his reliance on science.
Nick Fury doesn’t give a classification for him (we assume it could be either a 7 or an 8).
Scarlet Witch | Black Panther
Intelligence | 3/7 | 5/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 3/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 5/7 |
T’Challa’s a cool dude, but sadly for him, Vibranium doesn’t do that well against magic.
Ant-Man
The character first appears as Ant-man in Tales to Astonish #35 in September 1962. Thanks to the brilliant inventions of scientist Hank Pym, Ant-Man can shrink and communicate with ants. Using various other technology, Ant-Man can also alter his size – he can be small like an atom, or big as a whole building.
Scarlet Witch | Ant-Man | |
Intelligence | 3/7 | 4/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 2-5/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2-3/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 2-5/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 3/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
It’s Wanda’s win, unless Ant-Man does the famous shrinking routine and then resizes while inside Wanda’s intestines or something.
Avengers stronger than Scarlet Witch
Hulk
When physicist Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation, the green-skinned monster Hulk was created. The Hulk became a part of dr. Banner, a literal alter ego and a second personality, embodying the destructive side of the usually reserved Bruce Banner.
Luckily for the world, the Hulk is usually a good guy who uses his superhuman abilities to help the Avengers, a member of which he usually is. Nick Fury classified him as a level 10+ hero.
Scarlet Witch | Hulk | |
Intelligence | 3/7 | 2-6/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 7/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 3/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 7/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 1-5/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
This guy beat the shit out of both Loki and Thor, and those two would beat Wanda easily.
Thor
The Asgardian Thos is one of the most powerful Avengers in the whole Marvel universe. As the son of Odin, he inherited a lot of ancient Asgardian powers, which augment his regular divine powers.
With the help of his hammer, Mjolnir, Thos can be a respectable foe for anyone, which is why it’s good that he’s there to protect the universe from evil. Nick Fury hasn’t provided a classification for him (although we can assume it’s either 10 or 10+).
Scarlet Witch | Thor | |
Intelligence | 3/7 | 2/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 7/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 7/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 6/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 6/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
Thor might not be as skilled as Loki when it comes to magic, but you still cannot defeat an Asgardian that easily.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Stephen Strange is the most famous wizard from the Marvel universe. After losing his surgical abilities in a car crash, doctor Strange traveled the world and met the Ancient One, who taught him magic and whom he succeeded as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical threats.
Nick Fury doesn’t give a classification for him (the full extent of his powers could even bring him to a level 10 or 10+).
Scarlet Witch | Doctor Strange
Intelligence | 3/7 | 4/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 2-7/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 2/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 6/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 6/7 |
Despite all of his shortcomings, Doctor Strange is still a more powerful wizard than Wanda.
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers changed her code name and costume often during her career as a superhero, successively using the pseudonyms Miss Marvel (from 1977 to 1980), Binaire (from 1981 to 1997), Warbird (from 1998 to 2002), then again Miss Marvel (from 2006 to 2012) and, since 2012, Captain Marvel. She had a particularly tumultuous career as a superheroine and lived through a number of surprising events that left a deep mark on her.
Scarlet Witch | Captain Marvel
Intelligence | 3/7 | 3/7 |
Strength | 2/7 | 5/7 |
Speed | 2/7 | 5/7 |
Durability | 2/7 | 6/7 |
Energy Projection | 6/7 | 5/7 |
Fighting Skills | 3/7 | 4/7 |
The chick is so overpowered in the MCU that this one was too easy.
