Is Sydney Sweeney Joining the MCU to Steal Zendaya’s Spider-Man?

Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya are two of the most talked-about young actresses today. Both have made their mark in HBO’s hit drama series Euphoria created by Sam Levinson, and they’ve each ventured into the superhero genre.

While Zendaya is already an MCU veteran from the Spider-Man films, recent rumors suggest that Sweeney might be joining her in the Marvel universe soon.

Sydney Sweeney recently appeared in the SSU’s Madame Web as Julia Cornwall, also known as Spider-Woman. Despite the film’s disappointing performance and financial losses, and uncertainty about a potential sequel, Sweeney reportedly met with Marvel Studios execs shortly after the release. Insider sources suggest she might be cast as Black Cat in the MCU, potentially appearing in Spider-Man 4. However, this remains speculative.

As for the buzz around the title, fans are concerned that Sweeney’s Black Cat might become a romantic interest for Spider-Man, potentially complicating Peter Parker’s relationship with Zendaya’s MJ. Zendaya and Tom Holland officially confirmed their relationship in November 2021, but any “romantic rivalry” would be confined to the MCU, not real life.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, MJ was among those who forgot Peter Parker after Doctor Strange’s spell, which means the pair is no longer together, with MJ moving on and getting accepted into MIT.

This shift in their relationship opens the door for the studio to introduce a new romantic interest for Spider-Man. In the comics, Spider-Man and Black Cat have had a complex, on-again, off-again romance since the late 1970s, so exploring this dynamic in the MCU could be a natural fit.

Sydney Sweeney, who is friends with Tom Holland and Zendaya, has expressed her interest in joining their superhero universe. Fans are hopeful she might be cast in a role that brings Black Cat to life.
