As you can see, Undead Unluck is alive and well, as the series is definitely ongoing as of the time of writing; the most recent volume came out just a couple of weeks ago, and there is no sign of the series ending soon. On top of that, there are 19 chapters (161-179) that have not yet been collected in tankobon format, and knowing that each volume has roughly ten chapters, this means that we can expect at least two additional volumes, as things stand now.

So, seeing that the series is truly alive and well, why do people think it could be canceled? Keep reading to find out!

Why was Undead Unluck almost canceled?

Well, as we have explained above, Undead Unluck is still ongoing, and from an objective standpoint, the series was never “almost canceled,” as some reports suggested. Namely, a couple of years ago, some rumors appeared online that questioned whether Undead Unluck was getting canceled due to bad sales. An example is a post by a now-deleted Reddit user, which suggests the following:

I know it has a history of doing well, but as of recently, it’s current volume sales have been the lowest they’ve ever been, not even cracking half of what Mashle has, and just recently, it’s now dead last in the TOC rankings for the latest issue, albeit it’s getting the cover next issue for it’s 2 year anniversary.

I know people have said not to worry, but everyone in the WSJ Unofficial Twitter page has said they’re scared for it. Should we be? They didn’t even announce anything big coming it’s way for the recent cover page announcement.

As you can see, the user referenced rumors that appeared on WSJ’s unofficial Twitter, asking whether the rumors about Undead Unluck getting canceled were indeed true. Well, this was two years ago, and while we can confirm that the series is not canceled and is still ongoing, we must address the rumors.

As per the rumors, it is true that the series had a rough patch two years ago and that sales were low, but as many users confirmed, this doesn’t mean much in that aspect. At the time, Undead Unluck had already been a popular and well-established series, so even with the low sales, the chances of it ending up canceled were low.

Fans will spread various rumors, but these rumors are rarely true, as manga series are rarely canceled out of the blue. They might have a shorter run than originally planned, and the series might end up ending earlier than originally envisioned, but to simply cancel a series in the middle of its run is quite a rate. We cannot say that it hasn’t happened so far or that it won’t happen in the future, but such instances are truly rare.

This is why no one was really afraid at the time, and we can actually confirm that everything is okay and that the series is most likely to continue its run until it is over.
