Fallout is one of those franchises that are always popular amongst gamers, and in the last few years, multiplayer mods started getting bigger and bigger. In this article, we will discuss whether there is a Fallout 4 multiplayer mod at all.

Editor’s update: There still aren’t any signs of the mod coming.
Does Multiplayer Mod Even Exist For Fallout 4?
We know that the dedicated modders of the Fallout community provided fans with amazing mods in the last decade – our multiple articles on that topic prove this thesis. However, one mod had the opportunity to make Fallout fans fall in love with the game even more, and that was the Multiplayer Mod for Fallout 4. This mod first came into prominence years ago, since Fallout games at that moment had not had any multiplayer games at all. All of them were role-playing single-player games that could be modded into eternity.
After the release of Fallout 76 that changed – Bethesda finally joined the rest of the gaming world and made an online Fallout game, and it was … poorly received. It was buggy, it lacked essential details of the game, game lore was wonky, it lacked NPCs and the content of the Fallout 76 was just poor overall. Fallout modders realized that older games are still popular and decided to combine their talents and make a proper multiplayer mod that they always wanted but did not get it in Fallout 76 initially.
There were two multiplayer mods for Fallout 4 developed – one by Hynsung Go “Fallout 4 Multiplayer Mod” and “Fallout Together” developed by Skyrim Together group of modders. The “Fallout 4 Multiplayer Mod” was more promising and playable since the developer seemed more invested and dedicated in this mod, while Skyrim Together, even though they had good intentions, unfortunately for Fallout fans, had other projects developed at the same time.
Modder Hynsung Go and their mod Fallout 4 Multiplayer Mod was available and in development during 2019 and 2020. It was supposed to be fully released by the end of 2020, but the main developer of that project stepped down. Multiplayer Fallout 4 Mod after that, unfortunately, was doomed – other developers tried to continue the development but in the end, they stopped the project in full. Pretty said because the mod was really promising and offered much more than Fallout 76 at the time.
The development of Fallout Together multiplayer mod started in 2020 and modders on multiple mod websites announced that the mod is going to come out soon. It was going to be the biggest project in a really long time. At first, it was just a bunch of files the players could use and mess around with but eventually, the project started lifting off. Additions to the Fallout 4 looked really promising and PvE and PvP aspects of the game, with, of course, good old role-play was incorporated in the Fallout Together mod.
Even though the developers were doing both Skyrim and Fallout multiplayer at the same time, it did not seem that one of them are going to suffer – indeed, they announced that everything is going according to plan, even though the projects are really hard for their small team. After some time, the Skyrim Together team announced that they will focus on finishing the Skyrim Multiplayer Mod and then transfer into developing the Fallout Together Mod because they want the project to be released without any hiccups.
After that, Skyrim Together developers reported that the Fallout 4 mod looks great and that the gameplay is mostly without major bugs and glitches, which only made fans really happy.
Two months ago, the Fallout Together Multiplayer Mod was on the verge of being released – videos of a few YouTubers were posted hyping up the mod, and even developers decided to update the public on possible release soon.
Skyrim multiplayer mode made a great progression and the potential of Fallout 4 mod getting released soon, only increased the excitement. However, while I was researching this topic these last few days, I stumbled upon the news that was released two weeks ago – the project Fallout Together Mod, a multiplayer for Fallout 4, is discontinued indefinitely. Pressure and the lack of developers on the project, “killed” the mod.
When I use the term “killed”, I think about what developers reported after the questions about the cancellation of the project. They said that the mod is unplayable – the mod after a few upgrades, and actually showing promise, started being buggy and not working at all. This issue combined with everything else made the ending of this mod inevitable.
The developers reported they will continue working on the Skyrim Together mod instead and will be released pretty soon.
Conclusion
After thorough research, it is safe to say that the Fallout 4 multiplayer mod will wait a bit more. Fallout 4 multiplayer mod developers just could not continue after their main developer left the project, and the Fallout Together mod just stopped being a priority because it had a lot of issues and a lack of people working on it.
All in all, there will not be any big multiplayer mods developing soon for Fallout 4. However, there is still hope – as long as there are modders in the Fallout community, there will be always hope for a mod like this. If anything taught us in recent years is that the Fallout modders rarely give up completely – they always put their all into projects to make sure the Fallout game can be the best gaming experience out there. Hopefully, we see some good news soon.
