Jack Quaid Sees David Corenswet as the Perfect Superman: ‘It Needs to Be You’

As one of the most popular fictional characters, it’s no wonder that Superman has been played and (voiced) by many actors. David Corenswet’s Clark Kent will debut in live-action on July 11, 2025, taking over the mantle from Henry Cavill, as a part of the newly rebooted DCU.
David Corenswet’s casting has been controversial, mostly due to the fans of Henry Cavill who believed that he should remain as the Man of Steel even in this new iteration of the cinematic universe. However, from the insider circles, we’re seeing nothing but praise for the actor, as he is being described as genuinely the best Superman Gunn could find.
Now Jack Quaid decided to join the praise. The actor was famous for portraying Hughie Campbell in ‘The Boys,’ and voicing an animated version of Superman in ‘My Adventures with Superman.
Quaid was asked whether he would rather play Spider-Man or Superman in live-action and the actors quipped that he had done both in animated form:
Oh man, I love being the voice of Superman, I love it so much. I am also friends with David Corenswet, he’s a person who when I first met him I was like ‘oh yeah like one day whenever they need another one it needs to be you.
He will absolutely crush that movie, I don’t think I physically embody Clark Kent or Superman, so I think I’m more suited for Spider-Man. He is nerdy enough to where I think we cross over.
What’s interesting is that Quaid recently revealed that he auditioned for Superman but he didn’t make it past the early stages of the process.
I did, yeah. I think everybody did, if you kind of fit the bill. I didn’t get very far at all. I put myself on tape and it went nowhere and that’s totally fine, like that’s totally cool.
Quaid also cleared up that he is fine with Gunn’s choice of Superman:
Specifically because I actually know David Corenswet a little bit. We did a pilot years ago that never went anywhere, but he’s one of those people you meet, ‘Oh yeah, like whenever you need another one, it’s probably gonna be you.’ That guy is Superman. I know I don’t — I remember getting that audition being like ‘yeah, sure, I’m the voice of Superman in a cartoon, but I don’t really think I fit the bill physically at all and that’s fine, that’s totally cool.
