James Gunn Confirms His Next DC Project Will Be A TV Show
Ever since Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn started working for that other comic book house too, it seems like, between him and the producers, it was love at first sight.
DC took a chance and hired Gunn after Disney, the owner of Marvel Studios, fired him from the director’s job on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. And what a coincidence, one day after he was hired by DC, Disney and Marvel Studios decided to bring him back. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige agreed to put the production of Guardians 3 on hold until Gunn finishes his DC project.
Warner Bros and DC initially wanted Gunn to make another Superman movie, but Gunn didn’t like that idea, so they said to him he can pick any DC property he wants to make a movie about. Gunn decided to make The Suicide Squad, which was kind of both follow-up and the reboot to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad from 2016. The Suicide Squad was released in August 2021, and Gunn also developed a spin-off TV series centered on John Cena’s Peacemaker, which is set to premiere in only two days — January 13.
Gunn is currently back at Marvel where he’s filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy The Holiday Special. But, after he finishes that, he’s already set to develop another project for DC. President of DC Films Walter Hamada revealed last year that Gunn will continue working for DC after The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, and Gunn now revealed that his next DC project will be another TV series.
“It’s TV. There you go. You know, we’re stepping forward. It keeps happening. We’ll see what’s happening, and I’ll know what’s happening very shortly. I dealt with it last night and this morning.” — James Gunn for Collider
What could this next project be about, no one knows, except Gunn of course. It wouldn’t be a surprise if it’s one more spin-off about some other character from The Suicide Squad. We wouldn’t mind seeing Idris Elba as Bloodsport again, or even any of the other characters that Gunn presented in The Suicide Squad last summer. Who knows, maybe it could be Weasel.
