Jim Parsons Speaks Out on Possible Return for ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Reboot
Jim Parsons has shared a clear update about whether he would ever return as Sheldon Cooper in a possible The Big Bang Theory reboot.
Speaking on the April 17 episode of The View, as reported by the show and entertainment media coverage, Parsons said he does not see himself going back to the role that made him famous.
He explained that a return is not something he is planning at this point. According to him, the experience of playing Sheldon for 12 seasons already feels complete. He also noted that a lot of his own personality became part of the character over the years, since the role was written specifically with him in mind.
Parsons said, “I don’t believe I would do a reboot. I can’t say I miss him, partly because—especially 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for this specific actor—there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that.”
He added that even though he does not miss playing Sheldon in a direct way, he still recognizes how much the character has stayed with him. He also said fans still approach him often to talk about the show, which he finds surprising but very kind.
Parsons said, “There’s a lot about his qualities and just who he was that I still carry with me. The longer it goes on, I’m more and more surprised when people approach me about it. Not because I’m stupid, but because I’m like, oh, it makes sense, but I’m just not thinking about it.”
The actor also mentioned that fan reactions are always positive and meaningful, even years after the show ended.
While Parsons is stepping away from the idea of returning, other cast members have shown more openness. Kaley Cuoco has previously said she would be willing to reunite with the cast, including Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Melissa Rauch, if a project ever happened.
For now, however, no official reboot of The Big Bang Theory has been confirmed, even though the show’s universe has continued through spin-offs like Young Sheldon and George & Mandy’s First Marriage.
