’Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run’ Finally Reveals Its New Opening Theme, and It’s a Wild Genre Mashup

Anime openings have a long tradition of becoming just as iconic as the shows they introduce, often serving as fans’ first real taste of a series’ tone before a single frame of story even plays. For a franchise as visually distinctive and musically ambitious as ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,’ that opening sequence carries even more weight than usual.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting details on how the franchise’s latest arc would sound heading into its next major chapter, especially given how much attention the anime’s unconventional rollout has already generated. With the next stage of episodes just days away, that wait has finally come to an end.

Warner Bros. Japan has officially confirmed that rock band Kroi will perform “SPIN,” the opening theme song for ‘Steel Ball Run: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,’ alongside the release of the anime’s clean opening sequence ahead of the “2nd STAGE” premiere on September 25.

Kroi made the reveal in a particularly fitting setting, announcing the collaboration at the conclusion of their Kroi Live Tour 2026 “JUNGLE,” a ten-show run across six Japanese cities that wrapped with a solo performance at Zepp Haneda in Tokyo on September 23. The band performed “SPIN” live for the very first time during that same show.

The digital single officially releases September 24, just one day ahead of the anime’s next stage, giving fans the chance to hear the full track before diving back into the story. A newly illustrated anime-style jacket cover was unveiled alongside the announcement as well.

Kroi explained the creative process behind the song directly, describing how they approached capturing the show’s distinctive setting. “From that moment on, we immersed ourselves in the challenge of translating the world of STEEL BALL RUN and its epic transcontinental race across North America into music,” the band said in comments shared through the official JoJo portal.

The band drew on sounds reminiscent of Ennio Morricone and The Ventures to evoke a classic Western atmosphere, blending that influence with elements of funk, soul, and hip-hop. According to the group, they’d already spent years crafting music inspired by sandy landscapes prior to this project, which they felt made them a natural fit for scoring ‘Steel Ball Run’s’ sprawling desert race narrative.

Kroi also spoke to what drew them specifically to the JoJo franchise itself, describing a genuine creative kinship with the series’ genre-blending identity. “What has always fascinated us about JoJo is its truly unique world, where so many different cultures, ideas, and artistic influences come together to create something unlike anything else,” the band explained. “In many ways, we feel a special connection to that creative spirit.”

That description lines up closely with ‘Steel Ball Run’s’ own premise, which follows the first-ever cross-continental horse race across North America in 1890, centered on Johnny Joestar, a former prodigy jockey turned paraplegic, alongside partner Gyro Zeppeli.

The anime’s rollout hasn’t been without turbulence. Its original 47-minute “1st STAGE” premiere back in March drew significant backlash from fans, prompting Netflix to clarify that the series would continue as a split-cour production rather than a single continuous run. With “2nd STAGE” now approaching, “SPIN” arrives as a fresh musical signal that the story is moving forward into new territory.

Given the strength of the band’s stated creative vision and the franchise’s built-in passionate fanbase, “SPIN” looks positioned to become another memorable addition to JoJo’s long history of genre-spanning opening themes.
