Jonathan Majors was set to be the next major villain in the MCU as Kang the Conqueror, taking over the role from Josh Brolin’s Thanos. He first appeared as He Who Remains in ‘Loki’ Season 1, where his character and performance were widely praised.

Majors was subsequently cast in two more projects: ‘Loki’ Season 2, where he reprised his roles as both He Who Remains and Victor Timely, and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’

The release of ‘Quantumania’ marked the beginning of Jonathan Majors’ downfall. Shortly after the film’s debut, Majors was arrested on charges of physically assaulting a woman he knew, rumored to be his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Following his arrest, he was removed from several projects, his manager and PR team resigned, and commercials featuring him were pulled.

Although he wasn’t officially fired by Disney at that time and ‘Loki’ Season 2 was released, everything was contingent on the legal outcome. In December 2023, the verdict came through, and Majors was officially dismissed by Disney. This led to speculation that the character might be removed from the MCU, with the studio potentially moving forward with a different villain.

These speculations reached a peak at this year’s SDCC, where it was announced that ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ has been retitled ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

In a recent interview with TMZ, Jonathan Majors, who is working on a Hollywood comeback, expressed his desire for a second chance to portray Kang, a character he deeply loves. The role offers significant financial rewards and fame, given its prominence in the MCU, the most successful and lucrative franchise of all time.

TMZ: It was announced that Robert Downey Jr. was being brought back for Marvel to play Doctor Doom. I mean, looks like he’s replacing your villain, you know Kang. I mean, aren’t you hurt by the new direction that, like, Marvel is going in?

Majors: Yeah, heartbroken.

TMZ: You are?

Majors: Yeah, come on. Yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is legit though.

The actor has one significant regret: he didn’t receive the same treatment as Robert Downey Jr. or Ezra Miller from the DCEU. Both actors faced serious legal troubles and were not the ideal faces for family-friendly franchises, especially considering Miller’s disturbing allegations.

Nevertheless, both actors were given opportunities for redemption. RDJ succeeded, revitalizing his career and the MCU, while Miller’s attempt to redeem himself failed, leaving the DCEU in a precarious state following the release of ‘The Flash.’

TMZ: Yeah, I mean, both Robert Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller have had like a history of trouble with like, you know, the law, and getting arrested for felonies. I mean you only had a misdemeanor, do you feel like it’s unfair? That you’re like not being given the same opportunities as them?

Majors: I think it’s fair, that, Mr. Downey is being, and has been greeted with patience and curiosity, and love, and that Mr. Miller has gotten the same treatment, and that they’re being allowed to work their art and be creative, at that level. I didn’t really get that, so, you know.

TMZ: Do you wish you had like this same opportunity as them?

Majors: I mean that’s hard. I mean, come on, yeah.

TMZ: Why do you mean that’s a case though? For them?

Majors: Wow! I don’t know. *laughs*

TMZ: Would you want your old role back? Like, your old job back as Kang the Conqueror?

Majors: Kang? Hell yeah. Hell yeah hell yeah. I love him. I love Kang. Love He Who Remains. Love them. If that’s what the fans want if that’s what Marvel wants, hell yeah.
