Josh Brolin Reportedly Cast as Hal Jordan in DCU’s ‘Lanterns’
The DCU has a range of projects underway under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The upcoming releases include the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’ and ‘Superman,’ set for 2025. Meanwhile, several live-action shows featuring some of DC’s most iconic characters are also in development.
According to recent rumors, the Green Lanterns series has made notable progress with significant casting updates.
Josh Brolin, best known to superhero audiences as Thanos in the MCU and Cable in the “Deadpool” franchise, has reportedly joined the cast of the ‘Lanterns’ series as Hal Jordan, one of the three Lanterns featured in the show. This rumor originates from podcaster TheInSneider and Nexus Point News.
So far, neither official sources nor James Gunn have confirmed this news, which is said to be one of the studio’s most closely guarded secrets.
The series is expected to feature three prominent Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. Officially, only Nathan Fillion has been confirmed to play Guy Gardner. The role of John Stewart remains uncast, although rumors suggest the studio is looking for a major star to fill the role. Recent reports indicate they are considering a younger actor, possibly in his 20s, which aligns with Gunn’s earlier statements about wanting a younger cast in the DCU, likely to ensure the longevity of future projects. This desire for younger talent is also rumored to be one reason Henry Cavill was not retained as Superman in the DCU.
Previous casting details for the upcoming series indicated a plan to feature a more seasoned Hal Jordan and a younger John Stewart. DC Studios was reportedly seeking white actors aged 43-49 for Hal Jordan and Black actors aged 27-35 for John Stewart. With Josh Brolin currently 56 years old, he falls outside the expected age range for Hal Jordan.
Nonetheless, Brolin’s prominence in superhero adaptations adds excitement to the potential casting. If he does take on the role of Hal Jordan, it will be intriguing to see his portrayal.
