Jujutsu Kaisen: Are Nobara and Fumi in Love? Relationship Explained!

As far as Jujutsu Kaisen ships are concerned, one of the often discussed characters in this category is Nobara Kugisaki, who is, incidentally, one of the most popular characters in the series. As you know, she is the only female protagonist in the group, which is why she is so often mentioned in this aspect. In this article, we have decided to focus on one specific ship that is often mentioned when Nobara is talked about: the NobaFumi ship, which explores the relationship between Nobara and her childhood friend, Fumi. In this article, we will explain the exact nature of their relationship in the series.

Nobara and Fumi are officially just friends, and there is nothing that suggests otherwise

Nobara and Fumi are childhood friends. They grew up in the same village and went to the same school. Nobara had always been an extrovert with a flamboyant personality, while Fumi seemed shy and introverted. Still, when Nobara asked her to switch school bags, she accepted, and that is how they became great friends.

The two of them hung out a lot, as Nobara would come over to Fumi’s house and play Smash Bros with Fumi’s father, and she would also braid her hair. Fumi cared for Nobara, although she could not decipher her personality fully; initially, she thought that Nobara could not cry, so she was surprised when she saw her friend cry later when Saori departed.

Saori’s arrival was a major moment in the series, as Nobara began to hang out with the new girl more often, although this did not mean that Fumi and she stopped being friends. Nobara indeed looked up to Saori in a way, but Fumi was still there, and the three of them were close friends. This is why Nobara promised that the three of them would once again be together in the future as she was leaving for Tokyo. And this is how their relationship developed.

So, what can we deduce from this? Were Nobara and Fumi just friends, or was there something more to this relationship?

Although a femslash ship called NobaFumi does exist, it is not a very popular one because Fumi received very little screen time in the series. And while the two of them were certainly close, the series never actually implied that there was something between the two of them. They were close friends, but the series never implied that they were in love. It could be that Fumi felt something for Nobara, but that was never depicted as being anything romantic.

Fumi seems like a good and loyal friend, someone who cares for Nobara but like a sister more than anything else. There is more substance in the case of Nobara and Saori than in this case, so we can conclude that the likelihood of there being anything more between Nobara and Fumi is very slim, if not entirely impossible.

Will Nobara see Fumi again?

This is quite a relevant question, not just when Fumi is concerned, but in general – it is a major question whether Nobara will ever see anyone again. Namely, after being touched by Mahito, Nobara ended up with a near-fatal injury to the head and has seemingly died. Although the series hasn’t confirmed her death, it was stated that she is still alive, but only barely, and that the chances of recovery are slim, although not completely non-existent.

This is why we do not know whether Nobara will see Fumi again, or anyone else. This is one of the major unresolved issues in Jujutsu Kaisen at the moment, and seeing what Akutami is doing with the plot, Nobara’s story seems to have fallen into oblivion for the time being. This is why we really cannot speculate as to whether she will be back in the series or not.
