Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Mahoraga Really Dead?
Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is a shikigami part of Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique, one of the Jujutsu Kaisen’s most powerful techniques. Mahoraga was first introduced during the Shibuya Incident Arc, but the shikigami will play a major role in the series later, despite being defeated in his first appearance. Later, during the Shinjuku Showdown, Mahoraga is seemingly killed by Satoru Gojo. Is that true? Did Gojo really kill and completely eliminate Mahoraga, or is it something similar to what Sukuna did in Shibuya? Well, this article will reveal everything you need to know, so stick with us until the end.
Gojo’s attack seemingly did what Sukuna’s did not – it destroyed Mahoraga’s wheel
Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is known as the most powerful Shikigami that is part of the Ten Shadows Technique. It is a literal monstrosity with amazing powers that range from pure physical force to his exceptional adapting ability, which allows Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga to adapt to any technique, both in offense and in defense. This is why it is exceptionally difficult to defeat and kill Mahoraga, but not impossible, and this is seemingly what happened in Chapter 235, during the Shinjuku Showdown.
Namely, we know that after Gojo was freed from the Prison Realm, he faced off against Sukuna in what is now known as the infamous Shinjuku Showodown. And while the whole battle was both amazing and a piece of cr*p (something we have talked about in our other articles, which we encourage you to check out), it is also related to the character we are talking about here – Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga. So, how is Mahoraga tied to this battle, and why is he relevant?
Well, we all know that Sukuna took over Megumi’s body during the Culling Game and that he slowly crushed Megumi’s soul until the boy would no longer put up any resistance to Sukuna and his control over his body. Gaining complete control over Megumi’s body, Sukuna was able to gain control over Megumi’s techniques as well, and he was now able to use the Ten Shadows Technique as well, meaning that he was able to summon Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga. Since he had tamed him earlier in Shibuya, he could use Mahoraga in his fight against Gojo.
But what happened? Well, we know that Mahoraga’s adaptation ability is amazing and that it could adapt even to Gojo’s techniques, which means that the strongest sorcerer had to come up with a trick, which was Purple. We know that in Chapter 235, Gojo successfully used his technique to wipe out Mahoraga and seemingly win against Sukuna, but was that enough? Is Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga really dead, or did Gojo just tame him, like Sukuna had tamed him in Shibuya?
Well, we have to immediately say that we don’t have any official confirmation, as Akutami has not addressed this issue (yet), but we believe that the situation is different this time.
Namely, when Sukuna “killed” Mahoraga in Shibuya, his wheel was not destroyed, as was seen in the manga. This meant that Sukuna could exorcise Mahoraga but not kill him. But Gojo did something else. When Gojo attacked Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga with his Purple, Mahoraga’s body disappeared, and the wheel seemingly disappeared as the attack destroyed it. Does this really mean that Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is dead?
Most likely, yes. We have to note that Akutami has not confirmed this yet, but knowing that Mahoraga is not immortal, the fact that Gojo destroyed both Mahoraga’s body and his wheel probably means that Mahoraga is gone for good (and we know what Megumi’s shikigami can be killed), and that he will not be seen again. But, again, Akutami might change this because – why not?
