Jujutsu Kaisen: What Is the Name of Toji’s Cursed Spirit? Powers & Abilities Explained!
The characters we’ve seen in Jujutsu Kaisen are diverse and come in all shapes and sizes. Some are more important, and some are less, but it is common knowledge that these characters are very intriguing, regardless of their role. One of these characters is Toji Foshiguro, a supporting villain from the series. Toji Foshiguro is unique in many ways, and we have already discussed numerous aspects related to him and his role in the story, which is why this article is not going to be directly related to him, but rather to an appendage of his, the interesting curse he carries around his torse. In this article, you will learn everything about that curse you need to know.
The curse that Toji has with him is called the Inventory Curse. It is a very special, worm-like cursed spirit with a human head that can be used to store basically anything, from weapons to other curses, as in the series. And while it is usually big enough to wrap itself around Toji’s torso, it can become so small that Toji can hide it inside his mouth and body, thereby hiding its presence from the other jujutsu sorcerers. Aside from storing stuff, it doesn’t seem to have any other powers, but it can talk.
The rest of this article will be about Toji Fushiguro and his special cursed spirit, the Inventory Curse, which is also one of the most interesting ones overall. We will explain the Inventory Curse, why Toji used it, and how it complements his powers. Of course, as always, we have to warn you that this article will be filled with spoilers from the upcoming episodes, so be careful how you approach it if you don’t want to know all the details.
The Inventory Curse wasn’t strong, but it was enormously practical
Toji Fushiguro was born Toji Zenin and had Heavenly Restriction at birth, which made him unable to use cursed energy. In return, he has acquired superhuman physical prowess and highly heightened senses, allowing him to see and feel cursed spirits. When he was younger, he even met Gojo and was shocked that the sorcerer could recognize him because Toji was considered invisible. But the Zenin Clan felt that even that was insufficient and shunned him.
Rejected by his family for having this condition, he simply abandoned them one day. Many believe that his decision not to kill them was a fortunate happenstance for them because Toji could have easily done so. After leaving his clan, he became an assassin of jujutsu sorcerers, and it was probably around this time that he managed to locate the Inventory Curse and establish a special relationship with it.
As stated, Toji himself had no powers, and while he learned how to fight without them, he also knew that his physical abilities wouldn’t be enough against powerful opponents, so he combined his skills with the Inventory Curse’s abilities, which were practical, but basic, to become a beast. Now that we’ve explained this let us discuss the Inventory Curse itself.
The story of the Inventory Curse is mostly unknown, as it is almost exclusively tied to the story of Toji Fushiguro, so we don’t really have any narrative details to tell you, as the Inventory Curse appeared alongside Toji, and while it did not disappear directly with him, its story ended with Toji’s ultimate demise.
So, what does the Inventory Curse do? As the name suggests, the Inventory Curse is an inventory. It can store certain amounts of objects and even living creatures, regardless of size. It is unknown whether there is a limit to the number of things that can be stored inside the Inventory Curse, but based on what we’ve seen, the limit is either very high or there is no limit at all.
Sadly, we cannot confirm any of this officially, but we can give you our conclusion based on what we’ve seen in the series as a whole.
Toji has mostly stored weapons inside the inventory curse, as we’ve seen him hold a katana, a knife, and a gun, all weapons that he doesn’t usually carry around with him. He also used it to store numerous cursed objects, such as the Split Soul Katana, the Inverted Spear of Heaven, and the Chain of a Thousand Miles.
There are probably more weapons and cursed objects inside, but there was no time for Toji to actually use them in the series, so this is what we have for you. On the other hand, it can also store other curses, as numerous Fly Heads were also stored inside the Inventory Curse, all of which Toji released to confuse Gojo during their first battle. We’ve also seen Toji store Riko’s body inside it, and when the curse released it, it was the same, which means that the Inventory Curse doesn’t really digest the things it eats.
The Inventory Curse’s intestines are obviously special, as it can store objects larger than itself without a problem, so there has to be some sorcery involved in that aspect.
This becomes even more interesting when we consider the fact that the Inventory Curse can alter its size, as Toji shrinks it to the size of a palm and then ingests it to hide its presence from other jujutsu sorcerers. The Inventory Curse had a master-slave relationship with Toji, which is why Geto could not absorb it when he first saw it on Toji.
It is unknown how high its consciousness is developed, but the Inventory Curse has the ability to talk, as it is called Geto mommy later in the story, and it seemingly has some rudimentary emotions as well. Also, it is not killed if part of it is destroyed or sliced off, as was seen after Toji’s second fight with Gojo.
