Kelly Reilly Confirms When ‘Dutton Ranch’ Season 2 Starts Filming, and Beth Dutton Fans Won’t Wait Long
Few spinoffs have arrived with as much pressure as ‘Dutton Ranch’, and even fewer have handled it this well. The ‘Yellowstone’ follow-up, starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, premiered on Paramount+ on May 15 and quickly became the biggest original series launch in the streamer’s history. The show drew 12.9 million viewers worldwide in its first 7 days and topped the Nielsen streaming charts in its debut week.
That success led Paramount+ to act fast. The streamer renewed the series on June 24, with 2 episodes of its 9-episode first season still left to stream, before the finale arrived on July 3. Created by Chad Feehan with Taylor Sheridan as executive producer, the show follows Beth and Rip as they leave the ghosts of Montana behind for a new life in South Texas, only to clash with a ruthless rival ranch.
Now, fans finally have a clearer timeline. In a surprise appearance at the Paramount UK Upfronts, Reilly officially revealed that ‘Dutton Ranch’ will begin filming its second season at the start of 2027, according to Deadline. The British actress also shared the show’s impressive first-week viewership with the audience of executives, advertisers and press.
The event took place at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, just 2 and a half weeks after the $110 billion Skydance merger closed. Reilly shared the stage with other big names, including Kenneth Branagh and Peter Sarsgaard of the upcoming Scottish Highlands drama ‘Laird’ and ‘MobLand’ executive producer David Glasser, while Samuel L. Jackson and David Beckham appeared via video.
The early 2027 window isn’t entirely new. Back in July, Reilly told The Hollywood Reporter that production was slated to begin early in the year, adding that the cast would be heavily involved in the writers’ room over the following months as the story took shape.

Her latest comments offer reassurance after some behind-the-scenes uncertainty. MovieWeb noted that creator and showrunner Chad Feehan has exited the series, which left some fans wondering whether the new season would stay on schedule.
Season 2 is expected to pick up right where the first season left off. Beth and Rip will be focused on rescuing their adopted son, Carter, from a cartel operation, while the fallout continues from the tense exchange between Annette Bening’s Beulah and Ed Harris’ Everett McKinney about her family’s drug business.
Returning cast details haven’t been fully confirmed, but Hauser is staying with the series and also serves as an executive producer. The first season featured Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney and J.R. Villarreal alongside Reilly, Hauser, Bening and Harris.
Paramount+ hasn’t announced a premiere date or confirmed filming locations for the new season. MovieWeb suggests that cameras rolling in early 2027 could plausibly put new episodes on the streamer before the end of that year, roughly matching the gap ‘Yellowstone’ used to manage between seasons.
Others have pointed to a late 2027 or 2028 return as more realistic, especially since production schedules often slide. Either way, Reilly’s confirmation is the clearest sign yet that Beth and Rip’s Texas saga is moving forward as planned.

For Reilly, who spent 5 seasons playing Beth on ‘Yellowstone’ before the flagship series wrapped in 2024, the spinoff has proven to be a gamble that paid off in a big way. With filming just months away, fans won’t have to wait too long for their next dose of Dutton drama.
