Kit Harington Feels His ‘Eternals’ Role as Dane Whitman Wasn’t “Different and Interesting”

Kit Harington made his MCU debut as Dane Whitman, also known as Black Knight, in the 2021 film Eternals. Despite the movie receiving mixed to negative reviews overall, fans were enthusiastic about Harington’s character and eagerly anticipated his future appearances.

In Eternals, Whitman and Sersi had a relationship that ended when he learned of her true identity as an Eternal. By the film’s conclusion, Whitman embarked on his own storyline upon discovering the Ebony Blade.

It’s reasonable to anticipate that Whitman will return alongside the rest of the Eternals, but recent developments have cast uncertainty on this. Eternals 2 is currently on indefinite hold following a series of disappointing projects, and Harington confirmed a few months ago that he is unsure about reprising his role as Black Knight.

In a recent interview with GQ, Harington revealed that he accepted the role primarily because Marvel reached out to him. He admitted that he didn’t find the role particularly intriguing or distinct from his previous work but felt compelled to take it on.

I’m not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting. If Marvel calls, you gotta do it.

Despite his reservations, Harington admitted that he would be willing to return if Marvel reached out again. There is a possibility that his character could make a comeback sooner than anticipated, especially given recent rumors. The Ebony Blade is set to appear in the upcoming Blade reboot, suggesting that Dane Whitman might also be featured.

Additionally, there’s speculation about a rumored Midnight Sons project that could include his character. However, Harington’s enthusiasm about reprising his role doesn’t seem as high as fans might hope.
