Latest Rumor Claims a New ‘Scream’ Movie Starring Neve Campbell Is Already in Development
The Scream franchise is one of the best horror franchises of all time and it is definitely a pillar of the slasher genre. The original movie was a major hit that brought something new to a genre that seemingly showed it all, and since then, the franchise has become an important part of pop culture.
And while not every movie was successful, the recent outings were more or less successful and the franchise is now back on track, combining legacy characters with new stories and characters.
We know that Scream VII is set to be released on February 27, 2026 and is now being filmed, with many former starts, including Neve Campbell, returning. But the upcoming film might not be the last one with Campbell in the main role.
As you know, the process of starting work on Scream VII was a complex one, with many controversies; actors were fired, the director quit over threats, there were issues with paychecks… and it was uncharted territory for a while until Neve Campbell confirmed her return as Sydney Prescott and that seemingly pushed the whole project forward.
But, there is more. Namely, a recent rumor we have claims that a new Scream project is already in the works. The rumor comes from Daniel Richtman, popularly known as DanielRPK, who shared is via his Patreon account. So, what is he claiming exactly?
There are no specifics, but Richtman is claiming that the studio is already working on a new movie starring Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott, despite the fact that Scream VII hasn’t even been filmed yet.
Sydney Prescott is, alongside Ghostface, the most important character in the franchise, so it makes sense that the studio wants to expand her story. Whether it’s a sequel or a spin-off is unknown, but maybe we can already start hoping for Scream VIII, huh?
