Lego Is Letting Fans Design the First-Ever Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ Crossover Set
Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ have shaped pop culture for decades, but their worlds have always stayed separate. That’s about to change in a big way, and LEGO is jumping into the crossover with its very first fan-designed Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ mashup challenge.
The timing couldn’t be better. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on the horizon and ‘Star Wars’ preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, both franchises are heading into a massive stretch, and the two brands are leaning into the excitement together.
On Saturday, October 10, the Lego Group announced a first-of-its-kind Lego Ideas challenge at New York Comic Con. The campaign, called ‘Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles’, invites builders to combine the 2 universes for a chance to see their creations turned into an official Lego set.
The announcement was made by filmmaker and Marvel Comics writer Kevin Smith. In a statement, Smith described the challenge as reflecting the same creative spirit that has driven his work on the upcoming crossover comic.
LEGO’s Fede Begher, senior vice president and head of product group, called the challenge a milestone for the platform and its community. He noted that it’s the first time fans can build with both Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ in a single LEGO Ideas challenge.
The contest is split into 3 categories: Character Fusion, Vehicle Fusion, and Scene Fusion. That could mean reimagining classic spacecraft with superhero tech, putting heroes and villains face to face, or creating entirely new settings that blend both worlds.

The promotional art gives a taste of the possibilities, with Darth Vader, Thanos, Doctor Doom, Ultron, and Venom wielding a red lightsaber, all surrounded by stormtroopers and TIE fighters. It’s the kind of mashup fans have dreamed about for years.
Submissions are open now through the LEGO Ideas platform until November 12. Community voting begins on December 8, with winners expected to be announced in early 2027.
This is a bigger deal than it might seem. LEGO Ideas normally refuses fan submissions based on licenses the company already holds, including both ‘Star Wars’ and Marvel, so a sanctioned crossover is a rare opening.

The Lego Ideas Review Board will choose which entries move forward to a fan vote or prizes. The selected creations could then be produced as official Lego Ideas sets. It’s not entirely without precedent. LEGO Ideas previously partnered with ‘Star Wars’ for a 2020 vote that led to the UCS Republic Gunship, but this marks the first time Marvel has entered the mix.
The Lego campaign takes its name directly from ‘Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles’, the comic crossover from Smith and artist David Marquez. Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing first announced the project in August as a tribute to the franchise’s upcoming milestone anniversary.
The series launches in January and will be the first official crossover between the ‘Star Wars’ and Marvel Comics universes. It promises reality-shattering battles between Earth-616 heroes and the Galactic Empire.
At the House of Ideas panel at New York Comic Con, Marvel also revealed that the series has expanded from 5 issues to 6. Between the comics and the LEGO challenge, 2027 is shaping up to be a full-blown ‘Star Wars’ and Marvel year.
For collectors, this crossover opens the door to ideas that would have been impossible before. Fans could see iconic heroes piloting X-wings or Sith Lords clashing with Avengers, all in brick form. With the challenge already live, builders have just over a month to bring their wildest mashups to life. The next big crossover set could come straight from the fan community.
Which Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ crossover would you most want to see as a Lego set?
