Leslye Headland Reveals Her Ideal Number of Seasons for ‘The Acolyte’: Is It Too Ambitious?

“Star Wars: The Acolyte” is the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise. Even before its debut, the show stirred controversy due to certain remarks made by the cast and crew, unrelated to Star Wars itself.
The controversy only intensified after the show’s release. It faced review-bombing from disgruntled fans while receiving unrealistically positive reviews from critics. Currently, it holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics but only a 13% rating from the audience. This week, it dropped another point in audience score and saw a 31% decline in “minutes watched” statistics.
Some of the lost viewing minutes can be attributed to the shorter-than-usual 30-minute episode 4. However, the decline in audience and scores began with the release of episode 3 and peaked with episode 4, which featured instances of canon-breaking.
This trend is concerning for the show’s prospects, leaving fans questioning its future. Despite this, several weeks ago, producer Rayne Roberts teased that season 2 is already in development.
“We’ve got to get back into the writers’ room for season 2 to see where we’re at. We have some initial thoughts about what we want to do, but in terms of where the story will ultimately wrap up, that hasn’t been quite nailed down yet.”
This statement was made before the show’s release, so it’s unclear if these plans are still underway. In an interview with Collider, Leslye Headland mentioned that she envisions several seasons for the series. However, her “dream number” of seasons seems quite optimistic.
At least three, […] This is my dream job. I’m saying three because I’m hoping they’ll allow me to do that, but if I could snap my fingers, it would just be, this is my job until I retire. I actually can’t think of a higher creative or career peak than working on Star Wars. So, I really am good. I don’t really need to do anything else.
Amandla Stenberg, the star of the show who portrays both Osha and Mae, expressed similar sentiments. She revealed that this role is her ideal and that she wouldn’t mind if it were her only job ever.
I would be chill if this was, like, my only job for a long time.
“Star Wars: The Acolyte” still has time to recover, as we’re only halfway through the season. The last two episodes were slow-paced with minimal action, but there’s still potential for the show to pick up in the coming weeks.
