Leslye Headland Teases Thrilling ‘The Acolyte’ Season 2 Featuring Darth Plagueis, But Fans Remain Unconvinced: “Quite Possibly the Worst Finale”

Yesterday, the season 1 finale of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was released. The episode was underwhelming overall, with two major cameos salvaging it: Darth Plagueis and Master Yoda. Darth Plagueis’ appearance hints at significant developments for a potential season 2.

However, our analysis indicates that ‘The Acolyte’ is unlikely to get a second season based on viewership numbers alone. Despite being the second most expensive series after ‘Andor’ with a budget of $180 million for its 8 episodes, it also has the second-lowest viewership, again only surpassed by ‘Andor.’ The key difference is in quality and critical reception, which is why ‘Andor’ secured a second season.

Despite this bleak outlook, Leslye Headland has hinted at discussions about continuing the show, although no decision has been made yet. Headland mentioned that ideally, the show would span 3 or 4 seasons, and she has a clear vision for connecting ‘The Acolyte’ with Darth Plagueis and Palpatine, though she admits it would be “complicated and messy.”

Given what we’ve seen, it’s evident that Darth Plagueis, considering his experiments, had a role in the creation of Osha and Mae, setting the stage for what the second season could explore. The prospect of seeing a live-action Darth Plagueis is intriguing and exciting, and it’s a shame we haven’t seen the High Republic era on screen sooner. However, a significant portion of the fanbase is resistant to Headland’s interpretation of it.

Reactions to the final episode have been mixed, with many fans expressing concern over Headland “butchering” the story.

On the bright side, if the showrunners take legitimate feedback seriously, the show has the potential to improve if it gets a second season. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below!
