Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Image Teases a Much More Realistic Pascal
Disney’s live-action ‘Tangled’ has been one of the studio’s most closely watched remakes since it got back on track. With Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, fans have been waiting to see how the colorful animated classic will look in the real world, and the sidekicks are a big part of that question.
Production has moved quickly. Filming began in June at the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, Spain, with more shooting in the Basque Country, Catalonia, and at a school in Orihuela, and the Stabbington twins recently posted a “Stabbingtons Out” wrap message on social media.
Now an image said to show Rapunzel’s chameleon friend is spreading online. The Hollywood Handle shared what it called the first look at Pascal from the live-action ‘Tangled’ remake, placing it next to the character’s animated design.
The image shows a lifelike green chameleon with textured skin, thin legs, and a tightly curled tail, walking across a dark surface. It’s a big change from the wide-eyed, cartoonish Pascal fans know from the animated film.
Disney has not officially confirmed the image, so it’s best treated as an unverified look for now. Earlier in production, The DisInsider reported that Pascal had not yet been confirmed for the remake, so if the photo is genuine, it would be the first real sign of the character.

The realistic design has fans talking. Live-action remakes often face questions about how to bring expressive animated animals to life, and Pascal’s big eyes and silent comic timing were a big part of his charm in the original.
Maximus, the palace horse, has already been confirmed for the film. Behind-the-scenes material suggested that production is using a real horse combined with puppetry and CGI, which could hint at how Pascal might be handled too.
Croft, known for playing Raven in ‘Titans’, leads as Rapunzel, while Manheim of the ‘Zombies’ films plays Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn plays Mother Gothel, and at D23 she joked from the stage about loving the role and described the villain as only a little overprotective.
The cast also includes Diego Luna as Hawthorne, a new character created for the film. Caitríona Balfe plays Queen Arianna, Elliot Cowan plays King Frederic, and real-life twins Patrick and Hugo McPherson play the Stabbington brothers.
Michael Gracey, who directed ‘The Greatest Showman’, is behind the camera. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor wrote the screenplay, with Kristin Burr producing.
Set photos earlier this year showed Rapunzel’s stone tower being built in Valdegovia, Spain, complete with green moss like in the animated film. The DisInsider reported that the shoot was expected to run 8 months across Spain and the United Kingdom, which it called Disney’s longest live-action production yet.
Disney revealed the release date at D23 in August, alongside first-look images and footage shown only to attendees. The film is set to open on March 31, 2028. That leaves plenty of time for Disney to share more official looks at its characters. Until then, this realistic Pascal image is giving fans plenty to debate about how faithful the remake should be to the original.
What do you think of Pascal’s reportedly realistic design in the live-action Tangled?
