‘Love at First Kiss’ Ending Explained: Do Javier and Lucia Have a Future Together?

Welcome to the Ending Explained for Love at First Kiss, a new romantic comedy directly from Spain that tries to put on display a very different love story. The film is directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azua and stars Alvero Cervantes, Silvia Alonso, Pilar Castro, Gorka Otxoa, and Susana Abaitua. The Netflix film tells its story by playing with the conventions of the genre, which in this case is expected, as most romantic comedy films always follow the same structure and have become quite predictable.

The premise of the movie is quite clever. Javier, our main character, knows exactly how a relationship will go after he kisses the girl for the first time. He can see the future and uses this information to choose with whom he has a relationship and when to break up with them. However, it seems that he will never find the one. Sadly, this clever device is never used to its full potential, and after that first act, the film descends into the same conventions we are all used to.

Why Can’t Javier Find The Right Person For Him?

The film starts by introducing us to our main character. A man named Javier. Javier is about to break up with his current girlfriend. However, the girl finds herself surprised that the relationship is ending. Javier explains why he is breaking up with her, which is quite fantastic. Javier can see his future with the person he is kissing. So, he knows when the good ends but also when it ends, so he simply breaks up with the girls before they get to the bad part of their relationship.

Javier is the owner of a small publishing company. He prides himself on publishing only the best literature. However, that kind of literature sells very little, and his label struggles to make ends meet. He will have to do something sooner or later. He has a very important author on his portfolio, but she is still writing his latest book, and people only seem to be interested in her first work. Javier also has a friend named Roberto. They are best friends, but Javier has no feelings for Roberto’s girlfriend, Lucia.

Roberto and Lucia seem to hate each other. One night, when they invite Javier for dinner, they have a double date, trying to pair Javier with one of Lucia’s friends. Javier has no chemistry with Lucia’s friend, but when he ends up kissing Lucia, he understands that this is the one. Lucia is the one person who can take him to eternal happiness. It all seems perfect. However, Lucia is Roberto’s girlfriend. When he discovers that Roberto is getting ready to ask for her hand, Javier tries to discourage him.

Roberto goes and asks Lucia for marriage, and Lucia says no. She explains that she cannot marry him for several reasons. She also believes there is something between her and Javier. The inevitable happens, and the pair has sex and becomes a couple. Roberto discovers that Javier and Lucia are dating and leaving the country.

Do Javier And Lucia Have A Future Together?

As Javier starts dating Lucia, he meets a girl called Ariana. She works as a bartender in the bar Javier uses to break up with his girlfriend. Ariana is exciting, weird, and more. She has the soul of an artist, and she is completely unpredictable. Javier reveals his ability to her, and she asks for proof. At that moment, Javier was already dating Lucia. He kisses Ariana and sees nothing. He interprets this as Lucia being the one, and there are no more girls for him.

Javier and Lucia continue their relationship, until one day, during his birthday, Lucia discovers he already knew about the surprise party he organized for him. He saw the party when he kissed her for the first time. He doesn’t reveal that he knows exactly what will happen to them in the future. Lucia doesn’t like this and believes she is becoming predictable and a boring member of their relationship. They plan to go on vacation, but Javier describes exactly what will happen and says he has things to do with his publishing.

Lucia goes on the trip with a friend, and everything Javier describes comes to pass. Javier realizes that Lucia being the perfect couple for him is also quite boring. On the side, he has been going out with Ariana, who is the complete opposite. He can predict anything with her. Ariana likes Javier; they have chemistry, but Ariana won’t be anyone’s little secret.

Javier then decides that he should let Lucia go. He meets a returned Roberto at a conference and then plans a meeting between him and Lucia to reconnect. It happens, and Lucia returns to Roberto. Meanwhile, Javier chooses a life of not knowing what will happen and starts dating Ariana.
