Andrew Garfield played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). His portrayal of Peter Parker was praised for its charm and emotional depth, but the films received mixed reviews.
Critics felt the first movie was solid but too similar to the original Spider-Man trilogy, while the sequel was criticized for having too many storylines and lack of focus. Despite this, Garfield’s Spider-Man gained a strong fanbase, and his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) was widely celebrated.
Besides rumors of Garfield returning to the MCU as Spider-Man, he will also star in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller After the Hunt.
Andrew Garfield and director Luca Guadagnino recently talked about Garfield’s past role as Spider-Man.
At the Marrakech Film Festival, Garfield mentioned that he works hard to avoid constantly being asked about Spider-Man, joking that it’s still an ongoing process. He expressed gratitude for his time as the superhero, saying it helped him get opportunities to work with talented directors like Martin Scorsese.
After hearing Garfield, Guadagnino shared that he finds Spider-Man to be a “fascinating superhero” and revealed that he dreams of directing Garfield’s Spider-Man movies.
I remember when Sam Raimi directed his first one, and I was 28 or 29, I had these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac, and I wished I had been asked to do one. So I wish I had directed you in ‘Spider-Man,’

‘Spider-Man 4’ is in development, with production set to begin in 2025. The movie will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who has a lot of experience in the cinematic universe. There are rumors that Andrew Garfield could appear as a variant of Spider-Man, either in ‘Spider-Man 4’ or in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movie, ‘Secret Wars.’
