Luke Cage Is Finally Getting His Moment as ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 Set Footage Teases an Action-Packed Defenders Comeback
There is something genuinely exciting happening on the rooftops of New York City right now, and it has very little to do with a certain horned vigilante. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has steadily been reclaiming the street-level corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its Disney+ debut, threading returning Netflix-era heroes back into the fold one season at a time. Season 2 arrived on Disney+ on March 24, 2026, earning an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and drawing strong audience interest across its eight-episode weekly run. The third season is already deep in production, and it is increasingly clear that Marvel intends to go bigger than ever before.
Season 2’s finale left the show in a dramatically different place, with Matt Murdock having revealed his identity as Daredevil and ending up behind bars, a development that conveniently clears the stage for the rest of the ensemble to step up. And step up they are. Set photos and footage from Season 3 have already confirmed that Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and young Danielle Cage are all filming together, painting a picture of a Defenders reunion that fans have been dreaming about since Netflix’s original street-level universe was cancelled.
The latest piece of fuel on that fire arrived in the form of leaked behind-the-scenes video. New footage shows Mike Colter’s Luke Cage rehearsing a fight sequence, throwing a stunt double across a New York City rooftop, with crew members visibly wearing Punisher and Daredevil shirts in the background, all but confirming the production’s identity. While Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed what the scene is for, fans widely believe it is connected to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 based on the production team’s attire and the physical resemblance between the stunt performer and Colter himself. Power Man, it seems, is finally getting a proper action showcase.
The excitement is hardly unearned. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has made clear that Luke Cage is no longer being treated as a side cameo, with the story already building toward something larger involving him, Jessica Jones, and their family life. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Scardapane said, “The relationship between Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, we start that picture of those three people, that family, at the end of Episode 8 this season. The questions and the story that start there play into Season 3, absolutely.” Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum also confirmed on the Season 2 official podcast that Cage will be a “big part of Season 3,” leaving little ambiguity about where the show’s priorities lie.
Season 3 began principal photography in March 2026 and is expected to wrap by July, with a Disney+ premiere targeted for March 2027. With Luke Cage and Iron Fist both confirmed and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones also on set, all four original Defenders are heading toward their first shared screen appearance since Netflix’s 2017 crossover event. Set photos have also revealed that Colter is wearing the same brown suit his character had on at the end of ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2, a deliberate nod to continuity and where that arc left off.
Season 3 was already confirmed before Season 2 even aired, with Marvel TV’s Winderbaum telling IGN the show had been greenlit, saying, “In terms of Daredevil, yeah, we are greenlit for Season 3 and we start shooting next year.” The Defenders reunion gives Marvel its most compelling hook in years. Whether the rooftop fight footage is the first glimpse of something truly special remains to be seen, but the energy around this season is undeniable. If you have been waiting since 2017 to see Luke Cage throw someone across a rooftop in the MCU, how does it feel to finally be this close?
