Makoto Yukimura Confirms that “the Final Episode” of ‘Vinland Saga’ “Is Near”

Can you believe that Vinland Saga started 20 years ago? Yes, the manga began publication on April 13, 2005 and since then, it has been collected into 28 volumes. The manga is still ongoing.
It took 14 years, but the manga series finally received an anime adaptation that premiered in 2019 and is currently – we’re hoping – on a hiatus before a new season is officially confirmed.
In light of the fact that the manga is celebrating its 20th anniversary, Makoto Yukimura has written a heartfelt message for his fans, thanking them for their loyalty and love, but he also revealed something that we had expected but are still sad to hear about.
On April 13, the 20th anniversary of the manga, Yukimura shared a short, but heartfelt message with the fans on social media:
In this short first message, Yukimura thanked the fans for being there for 20 years and said that it was all thanks to them. And then he wrote a longer message:
Since this is a significantly longer one, here is the translation:
20 years! When I began, I didn’t expect to draw this manga for so long. I thought it would last 10 years. The schedule I anticipated has lasted twice as long. [Vinland Saga] wasn’t canceled as I was really supported by all its readers. Thank you very much. But now, the final episode is near.
And while it is nice to see an author thank his fans, what really caught everyone’s attention was the final line, in which Yukimura confirms that the ending of Vinland Saga is near. And while we had anticipated that, it is still sad to hear it.
The good part is that it won’t be too soon, probably, since Vinland Saga doesn’t have a rushed schedule, so we’ll be enjoying it calendar-wise, but there aren’t probably too many chapters left.
