After years of talk and speculation, the Malcolm in the Middle revival is finally happening, and it now has a title. According to a report from insider Daniel Richtman, the upcoming miniseries will be called Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.

Bryan Cranston has been pushing for a reunion since 2016. By 2021, Frankie Muniz shared in an interview with Steve-O that Cranston had even started writing a script, and most of the original cast was open to returning — except for one unnamed holdout.

Disney+ made it official in late 2024, confirming a four-episode revival with Muniz, Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek all set to reprise their iconic roles. Production started in Vancouver on April 13, 2025, and wrapped up on May 16. Cinematographer Michael Weaver was behind the camera. The show is expected to premiere in December 2025.

The miniseries will take a different approach from the original sitcom format. Instead of a feature-length movie, the story will be told across four 30-minute episodes. The plot centers on Malcolm attending his parents Hal and Lois’s 40th wedding anniversary with his daughter.

Several original cast members are also returning, including Justin Berfield as Reese and Christopher Masterson as Francis. However, one major change is the recasting of Dewey. Erik Per Sullivan, who played him in the original series, won’t be returning. Instead, actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will step into the role.

Fans will likely have mixed feelings about the casting switch, especially since Dewey was such a beloved part of the original show. Still, with most of the family coming back and a familiar tone promised by the new title, many viewers will be curious to see what chaos the Wilkersons are up to now.

In my opinion, the revival has a good chance of landing well if it leans into what made the original special: messy family moments, sharp humor, and a bit of heart. The title already feels like a fun nod to long-time fans. What do you think? Are you excited for Life’s Still Unfair? Let us know in the comments.
