’Man of Tomorrow’ Just Got Its Biggest Reported Shake-up Yet — Here’s Everything Allegedly Changing

James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot got off to a genuinely strong start with 2025’s ‘Superman,’ a film that reintroduced David Corenswet’s Kal-El while setting the stage for a much bigger shared universe. With that foundation laid, all eyes have since turned toward the sequel tasked with proving the DCU can scale up into something even more ambitious.

That sequel, ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ is now deep into post-production after wrapping filming last month, with Gunn sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses on social media along the way. The film reunites Superman with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, forcing the two reluctant allies to team up against a much bigger threat in the superintelligent alien android Brainiac.

According to a new report, the sequel is shaping up to be a considerably bigger swing than its predecessor. The film’s overall tone is reportedly being described as much more mature, dense, and epic than the first movie, with insiders comparing its sensibility closer to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ than to 2025’s ‘Superman.’

Part of that shift reportedly comes from Gunn taking outside criticism of the first film seriously during development. Sources suggest Gunn specifically researched the negative feedback surrounding ‘Superman’ and adjusted accordingly, with a change in cinematographer said to be one of the resulting fixes aimed at improving the sequel’s overall visual polish.

The villain at the center of it all is also getting a notably darker makeover. Brainiac’s visual design has reportedly been described as genuinely terrifying, built specifically to convey real fear to general audiences rather than simply serving as a comic-accurate cameo. Alongside that darker antagonist, the film is said to include a prison fight sequence involving Lex Luthor, one that reportedly features Hoult appearing shirtless to show off the character’s physique.

Green Lantern Corps representation is also expanding in a big way. Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart reportedly has a major role in the story, complete with a suit described as fully comic-accurate, giving one of DC’s most iconic Lanterns a substantial presence in the wider narrative beyond a simple team cameo.

Perhaps the most eyebrow-raising detail from the report involves Wonder Woman’s live-action introduction into the DCU. According to the leak, Adria Arjona has been confirmed for the role, with her earlier reported screen tests alongside Eva de Dominici, previously believed to be for the villain Maxima, actually having been secret auditions for Diana Prince all along.

Beyond Wonder Woman, the report also points to a scene involving Captain Atom receiving some kind of medal or military honor, though the broader context behind that moment hasn’t been detailed. Another emotional beat reportedly involves Clark helping his father Jonathan Kent, who will be shown in a wheelchair, suggesting the film is leaning into more grounded, character-driven material alongside its larger cosmic stakes.

Taken together, the reported details position ‘Man of Tomorrow’ as the DCU’s first true event film, functioning as a crossover point between the ‘Superman,’ ‘Supergirl,’ and ‘Lanterns’ productions. That ambition tracks with the film’s massive assembled cast, which reportedly includes Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Milly Alcock, Xolo Maridueña, and Frank Grillo, among many others filling out this expanding corner of the DC Universe.

Since none of these details have been officially confirmed by DC Studios or Gunn himself, it’s worth treating the specifics with some caution until trailers or official materials arrive. Still, if even part of this reported shift toward a darker, denser, more ambitious sequel holds up, ‘Man of Tomorrow’ could end up being the DCU’s biggest creative leap yet when it lands in theaters.
