Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper’s ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel Reveals New Story Details
Warner Bros has shared new updates about its upcoming film slate during CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The studio used the event to present several projects planned for 2027, including big franchise films and new original titles.
One of the main announcements was a new “Ocean’s” prequel titled “Oceans.” The film was introduced by Margot Robbie, who also stars in it alongside Bradley Cooper, who directs the project. The news was reported by Variety and confirmed during the CinemaCon presentation.
The story will go back in time and focus on the parents of Danny Ocean, the character played in earlier films by George Clooney. The plot is set in the early 1960s and takes place during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. The heist will unfold in the middle of the famous racing event in Monaco.
Margot Robbie described the idea during the presentation. She said, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows—his parents. You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
The film will use the Monaco setting, which is known for its wealth, luxury, and the Formula 1 race. The 1962 Grand Prix is part of the early era of Formula 1, when races were more dangerous and had many famous drivers competing on tight street tracks. The event is often remembered for its history and large number of retirements during races.
Warner Bros is also planning another project in the same franchise called “Ocean’s Fourteen.” That film could bring back the original cast, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and Don Cheadle. It is expected to begin filming soon if development continues as planned.
With both a prequel and a possible sequel in development, the studio appears to be expanding the franchise in two directions at once. One project looks at the origins of the Ocean family, while the other may return to the modern-day crew.
The Monaco setting is a strong choice for a heist film. It offers a mix of luxury, history, and tension that fits the “Ocean’s” style very well. The idea of connecting the original characters to a past generation also gives the story more depth. The final success will depend on the script and how well the characters are written.
