Mark Hamill Dreams of a Force Ghost Movie and Reflects on Star Wars’ New Era Beyond Skywalker

Mark Hamill has shared some fun ideas about the future of Star Wars and what he’d like to see next. The actor, best known for playing Luke Skywalker, said he wishes there could be a movie all about the Force ghost realm.
He imagined having conversations with the late Alec Guinness, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi. Hamill said, “I’d like to see a movie set all in the Force ghost realm. I could have conversations with Alec Guinness.”
Hamill also talked about what comes after the Skywalker Saga. He explained that once the original Skywalker story ended, Star Wars opened up to a whole new world of stories. “Once the Skywalker trilogy was over, it was a whole new era for them. George gave them this amazing canvas. The entire galaxy. They can do westerns, mysteries, comedies, whodunits, anything,” he said. He praised recent shows and movies like Rogue One, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. “I had my time and I’m really looking forward to the future with all these new projects.”
In the same interview, Hamill also outlined several things that Lucas would never do. Hamill pointed out that in the newer Disney movies, main characters do die. In the sequel trilogy, Harrison Ford’s Han Solo is killed by Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens.
Luke Skywalker sacrifices himself in The Last Jedi. And Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher, dies in The Rise of Skywalker after trying to bring Kylo Ren back to the light. But the new heroes, Rey, Finn, and Poe, all survive through the series.
Hamill said, “In the third one, I said, ‘You know, Luke has lost his hand. He’s got the black glove. Shouldn’t it be about Luke struggling with turning to the dark side?’ And George said, ‘Mark, it’s for children.’ And that’s why he would never consider killing any of the main characters.”
