Marvel Confirms ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ as the End of the Multiverse Saga — Here’s What Could Be Next
The MCU is currently in the midst of Phase 5 of the Multiverse Saga. Both this phase and the one before it have been filled with multiverse-themed projects that have received a mixed response from fans.
The studio is gradually working its way toward another major finale, similar to what we saw with “Endgame,” which wrapped up the Infinity Saga.
We still haven’t seen Doctor Doom, our main villain, on-screen yet, as Kang the Conqueror has been developed as the central antagonist of the multiverse storyline in the MCU. However, this doesn’t mean the overall timeline of the MCU has changed.
In a recent interview with Screenrant, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, confirmed that “Secret Wars” is still planned as the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
I think that’s [what] Secret Wars is going to be an amazing culmination to the saga. I think it’s going to make the journey feel like it was a worthwhile.
Making the journey feel worthwhile is challenging now, as some fans believe it will be impossible to surpass “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” However, one way to elevate the stakes is by starting fresh with a complete slate wipe.
Over a year ago, industry insiders suggested that “Secret Wars” might reboot the MCU. If you know the original comic story, this idea makes sense.
In this scenario, only the X-Men and Fantastic Four would remain in the MCU, with the Avengers gradually being replaced. The next saga would likely center on mutants. Kevin Feige hinted at this with the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” suggesting that the mutant era would begin with this film and have a significant impact on the MCU.
While the film didn’t deliver major developments, Feige’s comments might have been aimed at generating excitement. If mutants are indeed leading the next saga, his hints were on point.
The X-Men and Fantastic Four aren’t yet in the MCU, but reboot projects are underway. “Fantastic Four” is currently filming at Pinewood Studios in London and is set for release on July 25, 2025, as the first film of Phase Six.
The X-Men reboot is still in development, with Michael Lesslie working on the script.
“Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” will conclude the saga, being released a year apart, similar to “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
