Marvel Just Announced a New Podcast Leading Into ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel’s road to ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has already included cast reveal livestreams, weekly teaser trailers, and a brand-new theatrical format, each designed to keep momentum building toward the film’s December release. With the Russo Brothers back in the director’s chair and a cast pulling together heroes from across the MCU’s history, the studio has treated this rollout less like a standard marketing campaign and more like a genuine countdown event.

That countdown is now getting an official companion piece built specifically to help fans catch up before the film arrives. Marvel has confirmed a new podcast, aptly titled the “Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday” Official Podcast, hosted by Frank Alvarez alongside ‘Ms. Marvel’ star Iman Vellani, designed to revisit key entries in the MCU’s history leading up to Doomsday’s release.

According to Marvel’s own announcement, the five-episode series will work through ‘The Avengers,’ ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ recapping fan-favorite moments from each film while also unpacking their lasting cultural impact. The first episode premieres August 27, with new episodes releasing weekly.

The podcast’s release schedule isn’t arbitrary. According to Marvel, the fifth and final episode, focused on ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ is timed specifically to coincide with the September 25 theatrical re-release of ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ giving fans a guided refresher on the original film right as its new theatrical cut arrives with additional Doomsday-connected footage.

Episodes will be available to watch on Disney+ and Marvel’s YouTube channel, with an audio-only version also released through Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. That dual format gives fans flexibility in how they choose to catch up, whether they want the full visual conversation or a more casual listen.

Vellani’s involvement adds a layer of authenticity beyond her role as Kamala Khan across ‘Ms. Marvel,’ ‘The Marvels,’ and ‘Marvel Zombies.’ Long before joining the MCU as an actress, Vellani was known as a genuine superfan, having made her own homemade Ms. Marvel costume at 15 years old. That fan-first perspective has continued shaping how she talks about the franchise even now that she’s part of it, making her a natural fit to guide audiences back through the MCU’s biggest turning points.

Alvarez, known as co-host of The Basement Yard podcast, brings a similarly enthusiastic fan energy to the pairing. Together, the two are positioned less as detached analysts and more as engaged fans themselves, walking through each film’s legacy rather than delivering a dry historical recap.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to bring together heroes from across the Infinity Saga, the X-Men, and the Thunderbolts when it opens December 18, Marvel’s decision to launch a structured rewatch series suggests the studio wants as many fans as possible walking in with a refreshed understanding of everything that’s led to this point. Given how heavily the film is expected to lean on decades of accumulated MCU history, a guided path back through its foundational entries could prove genuinely useful for casual viewers trying to keep up.
