Marvel may not be finished with the Avengers in the world of video games. A new rumor claims that another Avengers game could be in development, but this time Marvel reportedly wants to leave the problems of the past behind. That could be good news for fans who still want to see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes get the kind of video game they deserve.

The report comes from entertainment insider Daniel Richtman, who claims that a new Avengers project is currently being developed. There are very few details available right now, and Marvel has not officially announced anything. However, one part of the report stands out. According to Richtman, the new game will have no connection to Marvel’s Avengers, the 2020 title from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix.

That could be one of the most important details about the rumored project. Marvel’s Avengers had plenty of things going for it when it was released. Players could control famous heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Black Widow, and the game included a full story campaign. There were also different abilities and combat styles for each character, giving fans a chance to play as some of Marvel’s biggest heroes.

That means a new Avengers game would not necessarily need to follow the MCU or match the stories from other Marvel games.

That creative freedom could be exactly what the Avengers need. Instead of trying to build another massive service that keeps players online forever, Marvel could focus on making one great game first. A strong story, exciting combat and a large group of playable heroes could give fans something they have been waiting for since the previous Avengers game failed to meet expectations.
