Marvel Reveals 'New Avengers' Comic Series with Unexpected Heroes

Marvel Comics has just announced a surprising twist for fans. The previously revealed ‘New Thunderbolts‘ comic series, set to launch this June, is now officially titled ‘New Avengers.’

This news has caught fans off guard, as the series was originally marketed as a fresh take on the Thunderbolts.

Back in March, Marvel hinted at a new Thunderbolts era, crafted by writer Sam Humphries and artist Ton Lima. But in a surprising move, it turns out that the team being teased as the Thunderbolts are actually the New Avengers.

This plot twist is in line with the Thunderbolts’ reputation for being unpredictable and full of surprises. The series draws inspiration from the Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts film, currently in theaters, bringing together a unique group of heroes.

The New Avengers roster includes some of the most dangerous and unpredictable characters in the Marvel Universe: The Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Carnage, The Hulk, Namor, Clea, and Wolverine. These heroes, often seen as loners or antiheroes, will team up to fight a common threat—corrupt clones of the Illuminati.

This new lineup marks a bold new direction, reminiscent of the 2004 New Avengers series by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch. Sam Humphries shared his excitement about the reveal, saying, “Plot twist, it’s been NEW AVENGERS all along! I promised surprises, and this is the first of many. It’s a thrill and an honor to continue the grand New Avengers tradition of team dynamics that are as explosive as the threats. And this era has two combustible teams: the New Avengers and the Killuminati!”

New Avengers #1 will hit shelves on June 11. The comic will feature various covers, including art by Stephen Segovia, Mark Bagley, Stephanie Hans, and more. Fans can also look forward to special character variants and a Marvel Studios Variant Cover that highlights original designs from the Thunderbolts film
