Marvel Studios Exec Teases Characters To Appear in ‘What If…?’ Season 3: “There’s More Fun To Be Had With the Multiverse”
‘What If…?’ brought a new flavor to the MCU. Despite the mixed reception of its first season among fans, it gained enough success to merit additional seasons, expanding the multiverse concept by drawing inspiration from various notable storylines.
Season 2 took an unconventional release approach, with episodes unveiled over nine days, akin to opening presents during the holiday season. Even before Season 2 premiered, news of Season 3 being in development surfaced. However, rumors suggest that Season 3 might mark the show’s conclusion. Bard Winderbaum, a Marvel Studios executive, teased some insights into the characters we can expect in the third season during his talk with Phase Zero.
‘What If…?’ is like, literally remixing, the MCU so it’s harder to introduce characters beacuse you want to see them in live-action first, although we do see Bill Foster as Giant Man in the second season. That’s new. So, in third season, spoiler alert, we do start to push that boundary a little bit more. There’s more fun to be had with the Multiverse and who can kind of come in.
Winderbaum’s comment refers to the unofficial rule that characters must first debut in live-action MCU before appearing in ‘What If…?’ However, as Winderbaum clarified, they began to bend that rule even in season 2. So, we can likely anticipate more “new” characters in season 3.
This aligns with rumors of Storm’s appearance in ‘What If…?’ season 3, which sounds like an exciting prospect. Have anything to share? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
