“Thor embarks on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced — a quest for inner peace. However, his retirement gets interrupted by Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who — to his surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer. Together, they set out on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance.” — Thor: Love and Thunder, official synopsis

Chris Hemsworth joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the first Thor movie back in 2011. In the eleven years of his MCU journey, Hemsworth has played God of Thunder in three standalone movies, four crossover movies, a post-credit scene of Doctor Strange, and the animated series What If…? Now, his fourth standalone movie is on its way, and that also makes Thor the first MCU hero to get four standalone movies.

Tessa Thompson and Taika Waititi are both reprising their roles from Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame as Valkyrie and Korg, respectively. Love and Thunder will also see the comeback of Natalie Portman and Jaimie Alexander as Jane Foster and Lady Sif. Both of them were absent from Thor: Ragnarok after appearing in the first two Thor movies, and Alexander reprised the role in the Disney+ series Loki last year. Portman will return as Jane Foster, and the movie will follow a known comic book storyline in which Jane will wield Mjolnir, becoming Mighty Thor. Christian Bale, Academy Award-winning actor and the star of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy is making a return to the superhero genre as the villain Gorr, the God Butcher.

Written and directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released on July 8, 2022.
