Marvel’s ‘Champions’ Reportedly to Begin Filming in 2026, Debuting After Secret Wars

The Marvels was a box office flop with few redeeming qualities, but it did set up the introduction of one of the most important future MCU teams: the Young Avengers.

After the movie’s release, rumors emerged that Marvel Studios was working on a project centered on the team. The project currently has no release date or production start, and was reportedly rebranded as Champions a few months ago.

Now, insider Daniel Richtman claims the movie (or series, according to some) will begin production in 2026, with a release scheduled after Secret Wars.

This makes sense given reports that Secret Wars will act as a reboot of the MCU, with Champions (formerly the Young Avengers) set to take over as the universe’s premier team.

Marvel reportedly rebranded the Young Avengers because the cast no longer fit the “young” label, aiming to make the team more appealing. The shift also follows the box office failure of The Marvels, prompting Marvel to rethink its focus on younger heroes and team-ups. While production for Champions hasn’t begun, Marvel is reportedly looking for a showrunner.
