Marvel’s Hawkeye: Penultimate Episode Is Full Of Twists And Turns
The penultimate (second to last) episode of Marvel’s Disney+ series Hawkeye debuted on the streaming service today! And oh my, what kind of finale we can expect next Wednesday!
The newest episode showed a lot of twists and turns. Not only about the show, but about the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it will be pretty interesting to see how all that will play out in the next week’s finale. We just hope the finale will be long enough so that nothing gets rushed.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOWING!
So, the latest 40 minutes that Disney and Marvel offered us, well, let’s just say that a lot of things have happened. After that showdown on the rooftop in the previous episode, we knew that a lot of things are about to happen, but not this lot. Previous episodes have all been teasing us with one particular mysterious character (The Big Guy), and now it was revealed who that big guy is (although most fans have already guessed it, now we know for sure). Also, looks like Kate’s family, and by her family we mean her mother, is involved in this whole puzzle a lot more than we thought. With Maya and Ronin’s antagonism, we are surely set for a wild ride in next week’s finale.
Yelena returns
After we saw her in one quick scene last week, Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova, Natasha Romanoff’s sister, one of the Black Widows is now back. Just like the post-credit scene of the Black Widow movie teased, she blames Clint Barton for her death, and you know how that usually goes, an eye for an eye. But, one thing is new. Although she’s determined to kill Clint, it turns out it’s not only because of her personal vendetta but also because someone hired her to kill him. Two birds with one stone. The beginning of the episode also revealed that Yelena didn’t survive Thanos’ snap back in 2018. But just like the rest of the universe, she returned in 2023 and now she’s back for blood.
Maya vs Ronin
Clint Barton said back in the first episode he wants to do only one thing – go back to his family for Christmas. Easier said than done. Ever since then, a lot of things have happened, and with Maya and Yelena on his trail, Clint is forced to make a drastic decision. He puts his Ronin suit back, ready to settle this once and for all. Of course, he doesn’t want to be the killer he once was, so he unmasks himself in front of Maya, trying to convince her to give up on that self-proclaimed desire for vengeance. He also reveals to her the truth – he was tipped off by the informant who worked for her boss, and that’s why he killed her father. One more very interesting thing is that Maya soon realized that her second-in-command, Kazi, wasn’t there when Ronin attacked although he was in town that night. Hmm, now we really wonder who that informant was. What a mystery this is.
Eleanor Bishop’s role in all this
When very known actress Vera Farmiga was cast as Eleanor Bishop, mother of Kate Bishop, many fans were excited to see her in Marvel Cinematic Universe, but no one could’ve expected what her bigger role might be. In the episode, Kate revealed to Eleanor everything she knows about Jack Duquesne and how dodgy he is. A day after, Jack got arrested. But he is really a bad guy in this story. By the end of the episode, we find out that Eleanor might not be so legit after all. Yelena reveals to Kate that Eleanor was the one who hired her to kill Clint. Wow, that was unexpected. And what’s even more interesting, Yelena sent Kate a picture which shows the meeting between Eleanor and, you guessed, the Big Guy, that Big Guy.
The Big Guy
We wanted to mention him in a separate paragraph. The Big Guy was finally revealed. Thanks to Yelena, we know now that Eleanor Bishop had a meeting with Wilson Grant Fisk, also known as Kingpin. As it turns out, Kingpin is the leader of Tracksuit Mafia, Maya’s boss, and Eleanor’s business partner in some not-really-legal business. Vincent D’Onofrio debuted as Kingpin in Netflix’s Marvel show Daredevil, in which the titular character was played by Charlie Cox. Kevin Feige recently announced that Cox will return as Daredevil in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although that probably won’t be in Hawkeye, it will be interesting how will this story now resolve. Many fans are expecting to see Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but that wasn’t officially confirmed.
Marvel’s Hawkeye debuted on November 24 on Disney+. It is the fifth Marvel show that aired exclusively on the streaming service after WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…?. Jeremy Renner returned as Clint Barton/Hawkeye. Hailee Steinfeld joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kate Bishop, another master archer. Florence Pugh reprises the role of Yelena Belova/Black Widow. Alaqua Cox debuted as Maya Lopez/Echo, and she’s already set to reprise the role in Echo, her own spin-off series on Disney+.
The final episode of Marvel’s Hawkeye will drop on Disney+ next Wednesday. But before that, make sure to also watch Spider-Man: No Way Home, which finally hits theaters this Friday!
