Marvel’s New Storm Maya Boyd Serves Effortless Style in Fresh Photos as ‘X-Men’ Hype Builds
Few casting announcements have sparked as much excitement this year as Maya Boyd joining Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ reboot. At D23 in Anaheim on August 14, Kevin Feige revealed that the Broadway star would play Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm, in the upcoming film.
The role puts her in iconic company. Halle Berry played the adult Storm in 4 ‘X-Men’ movies between 2000 and 2014, while Alexandra Shipp took on a younger version of the character in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’.
Since the big reveal, fans have been eager for any glimpse of Marvel’s newest mutant. Now, a pair of newly shared photos of Boyd have been making the rounds online, offering a closer look at the rising star’s personal style.
In the first image, Boyd sits in the back seat of a car wearing a shimmering silver slip dress layered with sheer lace, her voluminous curls framing her face. The second is a casual mirror selfie, with the actress in a black halter crop top, a leather jacket, and a newsboy cap, accessorized with layered gold necklaces.
The 2 looks show off a striking range, moving from evening glamour to laid-back street style. Fans have been quick to share their admiration, with many already picturing her in Storm’s signature white hair and glowing eyes.
Boyd’s path to Marvel has been remarkably fast. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre from the University of Michigan. She made her Broadway debut in September 2023 in ‘Merrily We Roll Along’, playing Mimi while she was still a senior completing her degree.
She then landed the title role in ‘& Juliet’, performing from April 2024 to June 2025. Most recently, Boyd appeared in August Wilson’s ‘Joe Turner’s Come and Gone’, where she shared the stage with Taraji P. Henson. Before Broadway, she had also built a following of more than 450,000 on TikTok since 2021 through skits, family videos, and singing clips.
The 23-year-old’s casting has been met with widespread enthusiasm. Many Storm fans had spent years requesting that Marvel cast a dark-skinned Black actress who more closely reflects the character’s African heritage from the comics.
Social media users have even compared her trajectory to stage-to-screen greats like Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Boyd kept her own reaction simple, telling fans on Instagram that it was an honor to be their Storm, and filling her bio with lightning bolt emojis.

The role is expected to mark her feature film debut. It’s a massive leap, but her stage experience may make her uniquely suited to commanding the presence that Storm requires. Boyd will be joined by an impressive lineup. Christopher Abbott plays Professor X, while Adam Driver takes on the villainous Mr. Sinister.
Inde Navarrette, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor and Sadie Sink were also part of the D23 presentation alongside director Jake Schreier, the filmmaker behind ‘Thunderbolts’. The untitled ‘X-Men’ film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
With plenty of time before the film’s release, Boyd’s social media presence offers fans a chance to get to know Marvel’s new weather goddess. If these photos are any indication, she’s more than ready for the spotlight.
