Marvel’s Secret Invasion: Samuel L. Jackson Confirms Don Cheadle’s Return As War Machine
Marvel Cinematic Universe expanded to unimaginable proportions in the last few years. Although the pandemic stopped us from getting new movies in 2020 and the first half of 2021, we still managed to get into Phase 4 thanks to Disney+ shows. Since January 2021, when the first Disney+ MCU series WandaVision debuted, we also watched The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye. Two next shows will be Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel, premiering on March 30, and June 8, respectively.
One more anticipated show that we ought to get by the end of this year is Marvel’s Secret Invasion, which is based on a famous comic book of the same name. The series is set following the events of Captain Marvel and the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury, the role he’s been playing since the very beginning of the franchise, and Ben Mendelsohn will reprise the role of Talos, a Skrull General, the role he played in the 2019 movie Captain Marvel. Samuel L. Jackson recently revealed that Don Cheadle, who’s been playing Rhodey/War Machine since Iron Man 2, will also reprise his MCU role.
“Don, Don Cheadle… I got Don, that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but til we did [Secret Invasion], I was like, ‘We’ve never worked together.’ We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh… but we’d never worked together, and we finally [got to work together]” — Samuel L. Jackson for Happy, Sad, Confused
Secret Invasion will also star Cobie Smulders, who returns as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman, who returns as Everett Ross. Newcomers include Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald, Noel Fisher, and Carmen Ejogo.
Don Cheadle debuted as James Rhodes in Iron Man 2, after Terrence Howard walked out on the role he played in the first Iron Man movie. Since then, Cheadle established himself as the War Machine of the MCU, starring in seven movies (Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel (mid-credits scene), and Avengers: Endgame). He also reprised the role in the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he’s set to star in his own Disney+ series Armor Wars.
