Marvel’s Star-Packed ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Phone PSA Is Stealing the Show at ‘Endgame Encore’ Screenings

Marvel has turned the return of ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ into a full-blown event, and some of its most delightful surprises come before the movie even begins. ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore’ opened in theaters on September 25 as the official lead-in to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which arrives on December 18.

The re-release runs 185 minutes, adding roughly 4 minutes of extra footage, according to The Hollywood Reporter via Deseret News. AMC is even running a sweepstakes for moviegoers who see the Encore between September 24 and October 4, offering a chance to win a trip for 2 to the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ premiere.

The pre-show has become a talking point of its own. Theaters are now screening a special ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ “Silence Your Phones” spot before the Encore, featuring a packed movie theater filled with beloved MCU cast members.

A 17-second clip of the spot, filmed by a moviegoer, was posted online. Fans flooded the replies with delighted reaction images, clearly thrilled to see so many familiar faces gathered in one place.

ComicBook.com described how the clip initially appeared to be a teaser for ‘Doomsday’ before revealing itself as a reminder for audiences to silence their phones. The outlet called it a total surprise and the perfect way to get fans engaged and excited.

The phone PSA isn’t the only pre-show treat. ComicBook.com also highlighted a heartfelt introduction from Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who discuss what it was like to make ‘Endgame’ and tease what lies ahead.

In a slightly cheeky twist, the outlet argued that these 2 charming moments before the film actually stood out as the Encore’s best extras, suggesting the new footage inside the movie didn’t quite match the excitement of the pre-show surprises.

Inside the film, the new material leans heavily into setting up ‘Doomsday’. ComicBookMovie reported that Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter now hear a knock at the door during their final reunion, leading to a surprise visit from Loki.

The additions also include a scene at the Time Variance Authority, where Ouroboros declares that the multiverse is collapsing, and a new moment with Bruce Banner. FandomWire suggested that Doom could be gathering powerful players for his own plans, with the Hulk potentially among them.

The ‘Silence Your Phones’ spot is a clever piece of marketing for a film that already boasts a massive ensemble. Deseret News notes that ‘Doomsday’ marks Evans’ first return as Steve Rogers since ‘Endgame’, while Downey returns in a new role as Doctor Doom.

The cast also includes Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Sebastian Stan, among many others. Seeing so many of those stars together, even in a playful PSA, gives fans a small taste of the scale Marvel is promising in December.

The Encore enters a competitive weekend, with Variety noting it could take the No. 1 spot against Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’, Robert Pattinson’s ‘Primetime’, and Brad Pitt’s ‘Heart of the Beast’. If the viral response to its pre-show content is any sign, Marvel fans are more than ready to return to theaters.
