Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest’ Just Gave Fans Their Best Look Yet at E.D.I.T.H., F.R.I.D.A.Y., Dum-E, and U, and It’s Wilder Than Expected

Marvel’s small-screen output has spent the past few years quietly building toward something bigger, weaving together threads that started with a grieving witch and a synthetic husband hiding in plain sight. What began as an intimate sitcom pastiche has slowly evolved into one of the studio’s most emotionally ambitious trilogies.

Now, as that story approaches its conclusion, fans are finally getting a clearer picture of just how strange and introspective this final chapter is shaping up to be.

Empire Magazine has revealed a new look at Vision, E.D.I.T.H., F.R.I.D.A.Y., Dum-E, and U in ‘VisionQuest,’ offering fans their first proper glimpse of the human-avatar versions of Tony Stark’s AI creations ahead of the show’s October 14 premiere on Disney+. The images show Paul Bettany’s Vision surrounded by these newly humanized digital personas inside what appears to be a stylized internal mindscape, complete with retro-inspired costuming.

The series serves as the concluding chapter in a trilogy that began with 2021’s ‘WandaVision’ and continued through 2024’s ‘Agatha All Along,’ following Vision after his reboot as he searches for meaning while evading those who once sought to weaponize him. Along the way, he consults the AI personas embedded in his own programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the returning threat of Ultron, voiced once again by James Spader.

Emily Hampshire plays the human form of E.D.I.T.H., the security and defense system Tony Stark originally built before handing control to Peter Parker, a program fans will remember from its unnervingly destructive turn in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.’ She’s joined by Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., James D’Arcy returning as J.A.R.V.I.S., and Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer stepping into the roles of Stark’s lab robots Dum-E and U, respectively.

According to showrunner Terry Matalas, this internal mental landscape is central to how the series explores Vision’s fractured sense of self. Speaking with Empire, Matalas explained that the show marks the first time viewers get to watch Vision truly drive the narrative and grapple with who he actually is, adding that audiences are essentially watching the character go through a full identity crisis, describing it as something close to “the Vision movie.”

That internal exploration reportedly plays out through a nightly ritual of sorts, with Vision navigating the real world during the day before retreating into this virtual mindscape at night, where Ultron and the AI avatars help him process his fragmented history. It’s a structure that gives the series room to dig into decades of MCU continuity, since Bettany’s character has cycled through more identities than almost anyone else in the franchise, from J.A.R.V.I.S. to Ultron’s creation to White Vision.

Beyond the central AI ensemble, the show’s cast also includes Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff, T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, and Todd Stashwick as Paladin, with the story reportedly kicking off once a bounty placed on Vision’s head forces him on the run alongside a mysterious boy who may be a reincarnated version of his and Wanda’s son. The eight-episode series is officially part of Phase Six of the MCU, positioning it as a key connective piece heading into the franchise’s next major chapter.

With its blend of introspective character work and the kind of surreal visual storytelling that made ‘WandaVision’ such a standout, ‘VisionQuest’ looks poised to close out this trilogy on a suitably strange and emotionally rich note. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see how Vision’s fractured psyche finally comes together.
