Five Nights at Freddy’s started off as a fairly successful indie horror but soon became a beloved cult classic that is often quoted as a great example of a game from its genre, which helped raise its popularity.

The game ultimately established a franchise, and in 2023, a supernatural horror movie was released. Made with just $20 million, the movie earned a staggering $297.1 million at the box office and, of course, work on a sequel began almost immediately.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to be released this December, and Matthew Lillard, one of the movie’s stars, recently teased a bigger movie. If you want to know what he said, keep reading our report.

In a recent talk with the media, Lillard teased a bigger movie, although he stressed out that it still won’t be made like major blockbusters. So, while the budget was bigger, it still wasn’t over the top.

“I think the storytelling’s been amped up a lot. I don’t feel like the budget’s gone through the roof,” Lillard said. “There are $250 million, $300 million movies out there, $500 million movies. I mean, God knows what Avengers cost, but we are certainly not that. We’re still sort of an independent little horror movie.”

He also teased a more “active” story with more jump scares and classic horror moments. “But I do think that the movie learned first time around, I think Scott, as a primary storyteller, listened to the audience. [It’s] what he does best. He knows that community so well,” he added.

“And I think that he’s responded with a script that… maybe it has more jump scares. Maybe it’s a little more action-packed. I don’t know. I’m not here to say ‘yes it is’, or ‘no it’s not.’ But I do think the fans are gonna love this next movie, and I think that they’re gonna be really excited come December.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be released on December 5, 2025.
