Michael C. Hall and Clyde Phillips Are Hoping ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Will Run for Years

Dexter originally premiered in 2006 and this unusual story of a forensic scientist who is actually a vigilante serial killer became a massive hit. Led by Michael C. Hall, the series became a cult classic and while it ended in 2013, it has now become an ongoing franchise.

The first continuation appeared in the form of Dexter: New Blood, which was a sequel series. Soon after, a prequel series, Dexter: Origin, also aired and we are now looking forward to the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection series, which is premiering later this year.

Ahead of the premiere, showrunner Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have revealed an interesting plan for the upcoming series which, if it materializes, will be absolutely amazing!

As you know, both Dexter: New Blood and especially Dexter: Origin were standalone, one-off events. And while New Blood does have some narrative potential, Origin was a true one-off prequel and we believe that these stories are, for now, best left alone as they are. They were amazing and they should be left alone.

On the other hand, based on the ideas and casting information we have about Dexter: Resurrection, it seems that this series has a semingly endless narrative potential, and that is something Hall has hinted by saying that “we’ve got the strongest franchise in Showtime’s history, and we plan to do this for years.

Michael C. Hall agreed. “Years with an s,” he confirmed. “The thinking is not to come back for a sort of self-contained one-off again, but leave it open to further exploration. The intention, and hope, is that the story will continue beyond this…. He’s a much more human, flesh-and-blood version of that horror trope of someone who just refuses to go down.

We don’t know if this is just a tease or whether they’ve talked to the studio, but if this really does turn out to be a real plan, we are absolutely thrilled and we cannot wait to see that the writers have for us!
