Monica Rambeau’s Marvel Future Is Looking Shakier Than Fans Hoped
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has spent years building toward the kind of universe collision only a handful of comic book crossovers could match. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ promising to fold in Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and even the original Fox ‘X-Men’ cast, fans have spent months tracking every casting reveal for a clue about who actually survives the journey to theaters.
One name that has been conspicuously missing from those reveals is Teyonah Parris, who plays Monica Rambeau, and her absence has only fueled more speculation with each passing announcement.
That uncertainty followed Parris directly into her press rounds at San Diego Comic Con this year. Speaking with Deadline over the weekend, the actress addressed her character’s future in the franchise and did not offer much reassurance. “I miss Monica as much as you guys do,” Parris said. “I wish her well, and I’m excited to see what they do next.”
For a fanbase already nervous about Monica’s fate, that response reads less like coy misdirection and more like confirmation that her comeback is not imminent. The comment is especially jarring given where the character was last left. ‘The Marvels’ ended its mid-credits scene with an injured Monica Rambeau recovering under the care of Beast, played by Kelsey Grammer, and Binary, played by Lashana Lynch, inside X-Men headquarters. That cliffhanger effectively stranded her on the other side of a dimensional rift, deep inside X-Men territory, with no resolution since.
Making matters more confusing, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is leaning hard into that same X-Men connection without her. Grammer is confirmed to return as Beast alongside Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. If Monica truly does not factor into the film, her own setup becomes an odd loose end in a movie built around tying every corner of the multiverse together.
The official cast reveal for ‘Doomsday’ has not helped clear things up either. Marvel’s livestream announcement highlighted returning Avengers like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, alongside Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts additions, plus the surprise X-Men lineup, but Parris and Monica were nowhere on that list. Some insiders have since claimed she quietly filmed scenes anyway, while others maintain the character has been written out entirely, leaving her status genuinely up in the air heading into the film’s release.
There is still a chance Parris was simply protecting a secret, since Marvel has a long history of using misdirection to keep its actors’ involvement under wraps until premiere night. But with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arriving this December and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ waiting in the wings for 2027, the window to properly resolve Monica’s story keeps narrowing. For a character positioned as a bridge between the Avengers and the X-Men, being left out of the very movie built to connect those worlds would sting.
