My Dress-Up Darling is a manga series written and drawn by Shinichi Fukuda. The story follows the relationship Wakana Gojo, a high school student who dreams of becoming a hina doll maker, and Marine Kitagawa, a cosplay-loving girl. An anime series adaptation made by CloverWorks studio began airing January 9, 2022 and in this article, we are going to talk about a potential second season of the anime.

The second season of My Dress-Up Darling still hasn’t been confirmed yet. The first season is currently airing and it probably won’t be before that season ends that we are going to get some information on the show’s second season. If the anime mimics the manga’s popularity, there is enough material for a second adaptation, so we’ll probably get an announcement during this year, with the season potentially airing in 2023.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of My Dress-Up Darling. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this great anime series.

Will There Be a My Dress-Up Darling Season 2? My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Release Date

The first season of My Dress-Up Darling began airing on January 9, 2022 and as of the time of writing this article, only two episodes have aired in Japan. Now, the first season of My Dress-Up Darling is going to have 12 episodes in total, as was confirmed on Twitter, although the exact release schedule was not revealed.

Since it’s still way too early into season one to discuss a potential sequel season, we can only speculate here. Namely, season one certainly won’t adapt the whole manga; there are eight volumes so far and the first season will probably adapt four of them, five at best. Considering also the fact that the manga is still ongoing and that more volumes are on their way, there is enough material for a second season, without a doubt. Does that mean we’ll be getting one?

The manga is very popular, that cannot be denied. Sure, it’s not popular as some classic shonen titles, but it has its following and the sales are doing pretty well for a slice of life title. The fans have been eagerly waiting for an anime adaptation and if new fans also come to like it (anime are usually more popular globally than manga), we’re sure that My Dress-Up darling is slowly heading towards a second season.

Everything we have so far points to My Dress-Up Darling being a likely candidate for a renewal, but we don’t actually know when and if that is going to happen. We think it would be best to wait for the first season to end before drawing any conclusions and that we’ll be getting some info in course of the current year.

Taking all of this into account, My Dress-Up Darling is a likely candidate for a renewal, but don’t expect to see the second season before 2023. It’s almost impossible for it to arrive before.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Trailer

You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to My Dress-Up Darling season 2, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the second season of My Dress-Up Darling. This is because it’s still too early for a second season trailer; the first season’s second episode hasn’t even aired as of the time of writing this article, so we’ll first have to wait for a second season to be confirmed before any expectations of seeing a trailer.

As we have said, My Dress-Up Doll could be a likely candidate for renewal, but it’s still too early to tell. The manga is very popular and the anime has the potential to be popular as well, but we have to wait and see how well the first season actually does before we can make a proper prediction. But, as of now, My Dress-Up Darling could be a likely candidate for renewal.

Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for My Dress-Up Darling season two is unlikely to appear before the end of 2022 or early 2023, depending on when the potential second season will air.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Plot

The overall plot of My Dress-Up Darling is rather simple and follows the everyday situations of Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa. It is a slice of life anime with elements of romance and comedy, so you can assume what the show is going to be about. The show is pretty grounded and based on real-life situations, although with your classic anime twist.

Wakana Gojo is a first-year high school student who dreams of becoming a hina doll crafter. One day during his first semester, his popular classmate Marine Kitagawa sees him making doll costumes in the school’s dressmaking room.

Marine, who has been wanting to cosplay for a while and having observed Wakana’s skill at sewing, asks her to create a costume of a character from a video game that she loves. Nevertheless, Wakana had never made human-sized costumes, however being pushed by Marine’s strong emotions, he accepts her request.

What Is the Plot of My Dress-Up Darling Season 1?

As for the first season, we don’t really know how much of the plot is going to be adapted. Based on the fact that we know that the first season is going to consist of 12 episodes, we assume that it will encompass the first four or five volumes of the manga, assuming that nothing will be skipped along the way and that there won’t be any filler content. This assumption is based on our knowledge of other recent releases with a similar number of episodes per season.

Still, we may be completely off with our predictions so don’t really quote us on this one. So far, only two episodes have aired – as of the time of writing this article – and we’re a couple of months before the season’s end, so we still have some time before we see where season one is going to stop. Until then, we have to work with what we have.

My Dress-Up Darling Cast and Characters

It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential second season of My Dress-Up Darling in terms of cast and characters, simply because we’re still too early in the first season. But, seeing how it’s a slice of life anime series, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two. Now, the main characters that have appeared in season one, likely to return for a second season, include:

Wakana Gojo is a first-year high school student. As an orphan, he was raised by his grandfather, a hina doll maker, who also inspired him to become kashira-shi, a hina doll head maker. Wakana has a large build and is over 180 cm tall, but has low self-esteem and is reclusive due to bitter memories of being criticized by his childhood friend who thought that a boy should not play with girls’ dolls. Likewise, he hid his passion for making dolls and had no true friends until he met Marin. He is voiced by Shoya Ishige.

Marin Kitagawa is a gyaru girl with an extroverted personality type and a classmate of Wakana. She is quite energetic and enterprising, but clumsy in detail and not particularly skilled in her work. She is an otaku enthusiast with a wide range of tastes, from magical shojo anime to adult video games. She is voiced by Hina Suguta.

Sajuna Inui is a cosplayer who performs under the name “Juju”. She is in her second year of high school and attends a girls’ school. However, her physique does not match her age, leading Wakana and Marin to initially believe that Sajuna was a middle school or elementary school student. However, like Marin, she is an outspoken and active person who will go to any lengths to achieve her goals. She is voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki.

Shinju Inui is Sajuna’s shy and reserved younger sister. Shinju is a junior high school student, but compared to her diminutive sister, she is so big that Wakana’s uniform almost fits her. Her height is 178 cm, she has a curvaceous figure. Shinju is close to her sister and has great respect for her. When Sajun cosplays, Shinju takes on the role of a photographer, using a camera borrowed from their father. She also knows how to use a computer, process and upload the pictures taken. However, she secretly wanted to take up cosplay on her own, but was afraid to be inferior in appearance to her sister. She is voiced by Hina Yomiya.

What Is My Dress-Up Darling Based On?

My Dress-Up Darling is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda; the manga’s original Japanese title (in Romaji) is Sono Bisuku Dōru wa Koi o Suru. The manga has been published since January 19, 2018 and is still ongoing; as of January 2022, the manga has been collected in eight volumes with more on the way.

The first season is based, of course, on the initial volumes, but since the season has only recently begun, we don’t know how much it will adapt.
