Netflix has stopped work on its planned sports drama Perfect after Millie Bobby Brown left the project, according to sources close to the production.

Brown was set to play Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, one of the most famous athletes from the 1996 U.S. women’s gymnastics team known as the “Magnificent Seven.” The film was expected to go into production later this year but is now no longer moving forward.

Reports say Brown left the project due to creative disagreements with the production team. Netflix and Brown’s representatives have not commented on her exit.

The movie was meant to tell the story of Kerri Strug’s major Olympic moment, when she helped secure gold for the United States despite a serious ankle injury.

During her final vault, she landed the routine successfully even while hurt, but her injury became worse immediately after. She was carried off the mat by her coach, a moment that became one of the most famous images in Olympic history. Despite the injury, she still joined her teammates for the medal ceremony, where she was helped onto the podium.

The project had already gone through changes behind the scenes. Director Gia Coppola was originally attached but later stepped away. Cate Shortland later took over directing duties, while Ronnie Sandahl worked on the script.

Even with these changes, the film was ultimately scrapped after Brown’s departure.

Millie Bobby Brown remains a major part of Netflix’s lineup. She is still attached to Enola Holmes 3, which is expected to be released soon. She also has other projects in development with the platform, including Just Picture It and Nineteen Steps, which is based on her own novel.

She and Netflix also recently wrapped the final season of Stranger Things, which ended in December and became one of the platform’s biggest global successes.

Despite the cancellation of Perfect, Netflix is expected to continue working closely with Brown on future projects.

This shows how quickly big film projects can fall apart, even with major stars attached. Creative differences can completely change production plans. At the same time, it is clear Netflix still values Millie Bobby Brown as a key talent. What do you think about film projects being canceled like this? Share your thoughts in the comments.
