Netflix Just Locked in a Release Date for Its Ambitious New Thai Royal Drama ‘Empress of Flame’
Netflix has been steadily expanding its investment in Southeast Asian storytelling, and one of its most anticipated upcoming projects is finally getting a concrete release window. The streamer has spent the past year building out a robust slate of Thai originals, and its latest historical drama looks poised to become one of the platform’s biggest swings in the genre yet.
That project traces its roots back to genuine Thai literary and cinematic history. ‘Empress of Flames’ draws from “Journey through Burma,” a book written by Prince Damrong that was previously adapted into the 1996 film ‘The Royal Fire,’ giving this new Netflix version a direct lineage back to one of the country’s most enduring historical narratives.
Netflix has now officially confirmed that ‘Empress of Flames’ will arrive on the platform December 3, giving fans of Thai period drama a firm date to finally mark on their calendars. A teaser for the series had already been released several months earlier on Netflix’s official Thai YouTube channel, building anticipation ahead of this confirmation.
The series stars ‘My Dearest Assassin’s’ Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul as Ananthip alongside ‘Master of the House’s’ Narilya Gulmongkolpech as Sekkharathewi, with Khemanit Jamikorn rounding out the leading trio as Tawanthip. According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the story follows a fallen princess of royal blood who weaves through treachery and betrayal, trading her virtue for vengeance in a bid to reclaim the throne torn from her bloodline.
‘Empress of Flames’ arrives as a large-scale reimagining of one of Thailand’s most iconic lakorn titles, produced through original production house Kantana Motion Pictures and led by a new generation of creators working with expansive locations, richly detailed sets, and elaborate period costumes. The broader ensemble cast also includes Mark Prin Suparat, Boy Pakorn Chatborirak, and Amanda Chalisa Obdam, adding further star power to the palace-set drama.
Empress of Flames, the new Thai historical drama starring Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul and Narilya Gulmongkolpech, has a Netflix release date. Mark your calendars for December 3, 2026.

Directing duties fall to Karn Sivaroj Kongsakul, working from a script credited to Titipong Chaisati, Nuttapot Potchumnean, Gift Nattamol Paethanom, Nut Nualpang, and Jan Weerasu Worrapot. Compared to past adaptations of the same material, this version is reportedly taking a deeper approach to character exploration, focusing heavily on the personal cost of pursuing power within a world defined by palace intrigue and shifting alliances.
Pimchanok’s involvement adds even more weight to the release, given she’s already appearing in another major Netflix Thai project this year, the action film ‘My Dearest Assassin,’ about a girl with rare blood raised by assassins fighting for her own freedom. Her presence across both titles underscores just how central she’s become to Netflix’s broader push into Thai original programming.
With December 3 now locked in, ‘Empress of Flames’ joins an increasingly stacked lineup of Southeast Asian titles Netflix has been rolling out throughout 2026, signaling the streamer’s continued commitment to investing heavily in the region’s storytelling talent. Given the strength of the source material and the cast attached, expectations are already building for what could become one of the platform’s standout international releases heading into the end of the year.
