Rian Johnson, a writer and director who made half of the Star Wars fanbase angry with his Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in 2019 made his latest success with Knives Out, a mystery crime film that received acclaim for Johnson’s writing, directing, and performances of the cast.
Now, three years later, Johnson is back with the sequel which, unlike its predecessor, will premiere exclusively on Netflix. Daniel Craig is reprising the role of Detective Benoit Blanc, who will have another case to solve. Netflix now revealed the first official teaser trailer, which you can watch below:
“You’re invited to put the pieces together. In the follow-up to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, Detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.” — Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, official description
Just like the original Knives Out movie, the sequel is also featuring a star-studded cast, including Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista. Rian Johnson once again serves as the writer, director, and producer.
The original Knives Out movie was released in November 2019. The movie received universal critical acclaim and grossed $311 million against the production budget of $40 million. In March 2021, Netflix paid $469 million for the rights to two sequels. So, after this sequel, we can expect one more movie set in the Knives Out trilogy.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is set to be released on December 23, 2022.
