A newly shared candid photo of the show’s core four young stars offers the latest glimpse into how this young Mystery Inc. gang is shaping up.
The image shows Maxwell Jenkins, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Mckenna Grace, who play Fred Jones, Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley, and Daphne Blake respectively, posed together in casual, era-appropriate outfits. The series is currently set to premiere globally on Netflix sometime in 2027, following months of production in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to Netflix’s official logline, “Scooby-Doo: Origins” reimagines how the iconic gang first came together during their final summer at camp. Old friends Shaggy and Daphne become entangled in a mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder, eventually teaming up with the pragmatic Velma and the newly arrived Fred to crack a case that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

That premise marks a notable shift from previous live-action “Scooby-Doo” adaptations, framing the series as a genuine origin story rather than simply dropping an already-formed Mystery Inc. into a new adventure. The show also marks a franchise first: rather than relying on a costumed performer or CGI, the role of Scooby-Doo will be played by a real dog.
Since the core four leads were first announced back in March, Netflix has steadily expanded the ensemble with a wave of additional casting news. Paul Walter Hauser joined early on as a series regular in an undisclosed role, followed by names including Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Sara Gilbert, Bruce McGill, and Sherilyn Fenn.

More recently, Netflix confirmed André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty would join the show in recurring roles, further rounding out a cast that now spans nearly two dozen performers. That steady drip of casting reveals throughout the year has kept “Scooby-Doo: Origins” consistently in the entertainment news cycle well ahead of its actual release.
The eight-episode first season comes from showrunners and writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, with Greg Berlanti executive producing alongside Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman through Berlanti Productions.
