China has always been one of the most important markets for Marvel’s biggest crossovers. When ‘Avengers: Endgame’ arrived in 2019, it earned roughly $575.8 million in China alone during its first 11 days of release. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ approaching, Disney is clearly treating the region as a top priority once again.

The film will open in Chinese theaters on December 16, 2 days ahead of its US release on December 18. There, it carries the title ‘Avengers 5’, and it has been named the most anticipated Hollywood film of the year locally, surpassing ‘Dune: Part Three’ and ‘The Odyssey’. China will also be one of only a handful of international markets to screen the movie in IMAX.

Now a new Chinese-market description for the film has surfaced, and it leans heavily on Marvel’s most familiar faces. Shared by fan account drdoomarchive, the text describes ‘Avengers 5’ as the legendary story of beloved heroes from 3 different universes who are pushed into a deadly collision and face an unprecedented survival crisis.

The description highlights familiar heroes returning after their own transformations. It notes that Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, “set down his shield for many years” and now “returns to the battlefield in a brand-new form,” while a “battle-worn Thor,” played by Chris Hemsworth, once again joins forces with the original Avengers.

The X-Men also get a prominent mention. According to the text, the mutants, who have long awaited their formal entry into the main MCU storyline, join the showdown under the leadership of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto, described as a pair who are “both enemies and friends.”

The description saves its biggest billing for the villain. It calls Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom the strongest and most complex villain in MCU history, noting that the actor who started the MCU’s first decade as Iron Man now returns as an ultimate threat looming over all universes.

The Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts are also promised a big return. The text closes by teasing that the fates of old and new heroes will intertwine, with the balance between good and evil reshuffled.

The most intriguing detail may be the reference to Steve’s new form. It lines up with earlier reports that Evans and Anthony Mackie indicated Rogers would take on the Nomad mantle, as in the comics.

Recent marketing supports that shift. In promotional art from a Chinese release date poster, Steve wields Mjolnir while Mackie’s Captain America carries the shield, settling how the 2 Caps split the gear. Footage has also shown Steve sporting longer hair and a full beard.

The emphasis on established heroes feels deliberate. Fans quickly noticed how much the text focuses on legacy characters, with the account sharing it, joking that Marvel knows Chinese audiences love the original Avengers.

That approach mirrors earlier regional promotion. An official display in Shanghai previously spotlighted 11 heroes, including Steve Rogers, Thor, Shuri, Loki, Ant-Man, Captain America, Falcon, Shang-Chi, Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova and Red Guardian.

The film’s momentum extends well beyond China. Presales crossed $50 million more than 3 months ahead of release, with over 70% of sales going to Infinity Vision screens. With China opening first, the global rollout will begin with a major test in one of the world’s biggest markets.

For now, the new description makes Marvel’s strategy clear: nostalgia, legendary heroes, and a villain of unprecedented scale will lead the charge when ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives.
