Few horror franchises have a backstory as famous as ‘Friday the 13th’. Long before Jason Voorhees became a slasher icon, his mother, Pamela, was the original killer at Camp Crystal Lake, driven by grief over her son’s drowning.

Peacock’s upcoming series ‘Crystal Lake’ is finally exploring that story. Produced by A24 and created by Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer after his work on ‘It: Welcome to Derry’, the prequel focuses on the woman behind the legend.

With the premiere just over a week away, fresh images from the series have arrived. The new look, shared by Entertainment Weekly, includes a chilling shot of a dark-haired woman huddled in a bathtub, its side streaked with blood, as the countdown to the October 15 release continues.

The bathtub image captures the unsettling tone the series has been teasing for months. Pale blue tiles and dim lighting create a cold, isolated mood, while the blood smeared across the tub suggests something violent has already happened.

A second image in the set offers a darker, more mysterious frame. Together, they fit the show’s blend of grief, paranoia, and gore. Linda Cardellini stars as Pam Voorhees, a single mother still consumed by grief almost a year after her young, sickly son Jason drowned in the town lake.

When 2 strangers show up at her door asking about her past, it sets off a disturbing chain of events. As the official logline puts it, the town is left wondering who Pam Voorhees really is. Cardellini has said she was drawn to the role because the character is important to the franchise but has rarely been explored.

The actor has also described the series as having an unusual tone that mixes several genres. She compared the experience to a fun, almost carnival-like ride. Fans of the 1980 original will notice some familiar touches. Costume designer Cristina Spiridakis dressed Cardellini in a recreation of the iconic blue cable-knit sweater worn by the late Betsy Palmer in the first ‘Friday the 13th’.

That first-look image appeared in Emmy Magazine, and Spiridakis thanked the publication on Instagram for featuring the show’s costumes. Cardellini is joined by series regulars William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom, who plays Grace.

The recurring cast includes Callum Vinson, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik. Episodes are directed by Michael Lennox, Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran. Each director handles a block of the 8-episode season.

Peacock released the first teaser and first-look photos in July. The footage opened with an eerie children’s chorus and showed a shrouded body being wheeled out on a stretcher, before a second trailer in September promised plenty of summer camp death.

The new images keep that momentum going as the release approaches. Each piece of marketing has leaned into the dread surrounding Pam rather than revealing too much about how her story unfolds.

‘Crystal Lake’ premieres on Thursday, October 15, exclusively on Peacock. All 8 episodes, each about 60 minutes long, will be available to stream at once. The timing places the series right in the middle of Halloween season, giving horror fans a full binge-ready story just in time for spooky season.
